You are lucky it shouldn't cause any future problems.
I've a plate in my wrist and this week I've had quite a bit of discomfort. All because I slept funny on my hand.
I am on my 3rd cast today had an appointment at the fracture clinic.is it supposed to be so uncomfortable. I had one changed on friday to a slab type one as kept getting tingling sensation, I have very boney wrists the ulna sticks out a fair bit.
So I mentioned it again today in the plaster room she put a layer of padding round but even when she was setting it I said it was hurting the end of the ulna again she just said it was padded. It has beenn so sore tonight and tingling again.

Not the same kind of injury but I broke my middle toe in my right foot in 2009. I didn't go to hospital as we were on holiday in Spain and they really don't do anything for broken toes anyway.
So I strapped it to the next toe ( I've done it before) and no real problems for the rest of the holiday.
5 years later and my toe is heading West, its creeping up on top of the next toe making it very uncomfortable when walking.
I am actually thinking of breaking it again and taping it to a couple of flat sticks for a while to try and straighten it?

Are you sure you broke the middle toe and not dislocated it? They might not x-ray toes any more or do anything for fractures ( except the big one ) but it is different for obvious deformity. If your original fracture hadn't set within a few weeks it is never going to and you should get an orthopaedic referral.
I suppose it could have been dislocated, it just originally felt like the last time I broke a toe in other foot.
I might well need to get it looked at, just fed up attending Hospitals over the past couple of years.
