I always use ebay and Amazon to get an idea of prices, then hit the searches online, in a lot of cases especially on the run up to Xmas toys are cheaper in shops than on ebay. They also do a pick up at your local branch.
I ordered the Tangled doll for my grandaughter last year, on ebay they were bidding over £20 to get it before xmas, Selfridges with delivery £15.99 and arrived in 4days.
So I use it mainly as a tool for prices and to sell stuff.
I never buy from any private company either on E Bay or Amazon unless I have phoned them first and spoken to someone. This is important to me as I can more easily guage their knowledge and 'get a feel' for them.
I also know that if there is a problem I can speak to a person and it lets me know that they are in GB and not somewhere where I am unlikely to be able to get back to (having inadvertantly bought a laptop battery from China which did not become apparent until I had clicked pay)
Having said that E bay do refund in case of fraud as does pay pal.
I get a lot of advice over the phone too and it is nice to speak, far more human.
Sorry to hear the problems you and your son have faced on Ebay.
I just wanted to say that he is correct in only wanting a MAC laptop. We have had loads of windows computers/laptops as my hubby is an engineer. We switched 4 years ago, MAC laptops are amazing, the best. Our children use them for pleasure, I use them for perusing the NET and my hubby for technical data. Good luck with your search for a good one.
We have the apple/android/windows dispute in our house.
Lets see; 3 windows laptops, 2 ipads, 3 ipods, 2 iphones (one retired) a multitude of current and aged/broken android phones, one windows phone and various tower pc's in the loft!
Fair enough OH has his own business and iphones do exactly what he needs.
The teens own the ipods/pads bought by their dad,( my ex).
I am left with the windows dregs! Although my 3 year old Toshiba laptop still works very well.
Finally been able to escalate this for Ebay to request a refund. Had to wait 7 days after paying for item before could open a case then another 8 days for the seller to respond. Of course no response.
Now Ebay get another 48 hours to sort it out! Under their Money Back Guarantee there can only be one outcome.
So they seller has had my money for 15 days and I of course have a credit card bill to pay.
Ebay have refunded me under their guarantee scheme.
Guess what now a negative feedback showing under sellers profile. For the exact same listing as mine. I have now gone back though completed listings for around the same date and same price.
I dont buy from a private seller on ebay, unless its cash on collection AND I can go and collect the item in person. That way If the item isnt as described or isnt there, then I dont pay a penny.
------------- Never look down at anybody....
.....unless to offer a hand, to help them up
I bought an iPhone 4s on Ebay a couple of months ago.It said it was unlocked and only used for three months. It was just what I was looking for. I paid £160 for it using Paypal and held my breath as the seller was foreign.
It arrived within two days and it was brilliant, like new.Checked the serial number and everything was fine. The gentleman who sold it was really nice. Not all sellers on Ebay are scammers but you have to be very careful.
