Hi all - need a bit of help. My OH wants to visit Gloucester Docks, to browse the antiques centre. Why I don't know !! He wont buy anything, and I hate shopping the best of times, more so 'window shopping' . However, I have chosen the last 3 trips, so I thought he had better have his own way this time.

The thing is, I have searched the campsite 'search facility', and find myself going round in circles. Do any of you know of a site as close to the docks as possible, also, how easy is it to park a small motor home ( 18ft long )? the same parking criteria needed for Gloucester itself. Two things - re campsite - dogs allowed and EHU essential.

If any of you can point me in the right direction re site, I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks for looking.

What about Tudor caravan park at Slimbridge? Gloucester Docks is really nice, some normal shops, lots of antiques and a nice walk. The cathedral is also worth a visit. I remember there being a large open air car park, but check their website to make sure

I lived in Gloucester many years ago. The Red Lion, Wainlode Hill, GL2 9LW still has a campsite.

Its not far from the centre, me and friends used to cycle there, have a few pints of scrumpy and not remember cycling back!

Back then the docks was the pits. Whilst it has been regenerated the centre of Gloucester is now the pits.

Another vote for Tudor Park at Slimbridge but why on earth would you waste time at Gloucester docks it was the pits there is nothing there!

On the other hand there's plenty to see in the area.

The Waterways museum next to the antiques centre is interesting for a hour or two.

Not sure the antique market is up to much now. It was closing down earlier this year but was saved.

Not sure when you last went to Glos but the Docks have been regenerated.

There is a car park in the docks itself which you should be able to park.

We stayed at the red lion in May and ignored all the reviews that ran it down. Lady owner was a bit stern but the man was so laid back he was brill, bought him a pint and he offered to take us to another pub with nicer food ( we had lush food on the Fri eve but was rubbish mid week)
We went to Gloucester docks we parked in an open pay an d display right next to the docks bit not sure about a mobile homes sorry. There's a shopping center there now plenty of shops in it and bars and restaurants by thedocs. Didn't see any antique shops thou but litterally just went round the docs

Cheers all. We have plumbed for the Red Lion, as there seemed to be more room for the dogs ( my priority lol ). I telephoned the Gloucester council re parking, and they were very helpful.

We are off today, so will let you know how we get on re the site staff - must say I am looking forward to meeting this 'infamous guy', but as some one said, they are not there to make friends, so as long as the facilities are half decent, that's all that matters.

Watch this space !! will I be or

Unless the Red Lion has changed hands we would not go back there ever again, we would rather stay in the lay by on the main road. One of the bad reviews was ours as we had the worst experience on a caravan site ever from ignorant unhelpful staff to terrible toilets/showers. Hope you have a better time than we did,at least the site should be dry with the decent weather we have been having as it floods when the river is high.
Good luck
