Hi, my DS1 is moving into university accommodation which doesn't have a proper cooker, it's an induction hob. Do you know where I can buy a single cheap saucepan for the general tinned stuff etc that students eat? All the ones I have come across have either been quite expensive or sold in sets. I don't want to spend too much in case it either gets damaged or nicked (students eh!) Thanks a lot.

I meant the usual gas/electric with an oven freeatlast, they get a microwave and an induction hob for pans. I thought any stainless steel pans would work but I looked at a cheap one in Wilko and it said on the bottom 'not suitable for induction hob' so I'm confused.

Ikea do a good range called 365 which work on all hobs. We got an induction hob recently and bought a cheap set of 3 all-hob saucepans from Argus, but they're a bit cheap and nasty. However the frying pan we bought at Ikea is excellent, I wish we' gone there first!

induction hobs have to have pan bases that are magnetic. We have had a hob like this for 5 years and its not really easy getting pans etc for them. They are normally heavy aswell due to the steel in the base. But induction hobs are great, even quicker to respond than gas,and switch off on their own if pan is on it.even the cheap shops at skegg are asking over £10 for a small frying pan.
Thanks everyone for your help. I've been in Morrisons today and bought one of their own brand stainless steel pans with lid, £6, which says on the label is suitable for induction hobs. Looks quite well made, whether it will stand up to student life is another matter!

Looks good David, but it would probably go missing at uni, defeating the object. If he loses a £6 pan I can afford a second for the same money as the adaptor device. Good idea for a home setting though if someone already has nice pans.
