Sporting legend Nigel Mansell and TV’s Fiona Bruce to open the Motorhome & Caravan Show 2014 Former F1 World Champion, and British motorsport royalty, Nigel Mansell, and renowned TV broadcaster Fiona Bruce, will officially open the Motorhome & Caravan Show on Tuesday 14th October at Birmingham’s NEC. Famous for his love of racing, Nigel is also a passionate caravanner. Along with guest of The Caravan Club, Fiona Bruce, Nigel will be opening the event and he will be speaking in the Show’s Experts’ Theatre about his career and caravanning experiences – no doubt along with sharing his opinion on Lewis Hamilton’s chances of winning the current Formula One World Championship. More than 400 exhibitors, including all the major UK and European manufacturers, will be at the Show from 14th – 19th October. Thousands of visitors will attend the event, and millions of pounds worth of sales are expected over the six days. Nigel is the only driver in history to win both the Formula One and the Indy Car World Series in successive seasons, yet away from these exploits his family has enjoyed caravan holidays for more than 20 years. Nigel says: “I have enjoyed caravan holidays for decades, and continue to do so. My family and I enjoy the freedom that comes with caravanning, and we’ve regularly visited Wales over the years to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. “It’s amazing to see how far the industry has developed in recent years, there are some great looking vehicles out there that are more technologically advanced than ever. I’m delighted to open the show and will no doubt be browsing the new models myself!” Visitors can also see journalist and presenter, Fiona Bruce, throughout the opening day, which is also Caravan Club Day, as following her joint Show opening she will be at The Caravan Club’s Lounge (20.79), hosting a set of forums and interactive sessions . Well known for her love of the outdoors, The Camping and Caravanning Club President, Julia Bradbury, will be at the Show too, on ‘Friendly Friday’ - Friday 17th October, on stand (8.10). The Motorhome & Caravan Show is the UK’s only national event for the motorhome and caravan industry where all the major manufacturers launch their exciting new 2015 models hot off the production line. The Show fills 11 giant halls at the NEC and in 2013 more than 100,000 people from across the UK visited.
This year hundreds of products will be on sale, many at Show only prices, for people to buy and browse, including caravans, motorhomes, campervans, trailer tents and folding caravans, luxury lodges and caravan holiday homes, not to mention thousands of outdoor accessories, gadgets and campsite and destination ideas. Find out more about the show and win one of 20 pairs of tickets

World’s first electric campervan conversion to be unveiled at the Motorhome & Caravan Show 2014
• Based on the new Nissan e-NV200 electric van
• First commercially available vehicle of its kind
• Converted by British experts Hillside Leisure
• See it for the first time at the UK’s national, new product show
This year’s Motorhome & Caravan Show will see a world exhibition first with the grand unveiling of an electric, zero emission, campervan conversion from specialist British firm Hillside Leisure.
The Hillside Leisure campervan conversion is based on the Nissan e-NV200. With its van dimensions it can easily be used as a daily driver, yet once converted with an elevating roof and cargo area transformed into a luxurious living space it’s still perfect for those spontaneous weekend trips to the seaside, or days out in the Peak District.
The completed Hillside Leisure campervan has all the best equipment for camping and boasts many futuristic features, including:
• Award winning zero-emission technology
• 40% lower servicing costs (no engine oil, belts, gearbox or clutch)
• Up to four times cheaper to fuel than diesel vehicles
• Vibration-free, emission-free, noise-free drivetrain
• Practical 106 mile range, 76mph maximum speed
• Multi-function display gives an economy read-out along with battery state of charge
• Pre-heating control which can be remotely operated via a smartphone
• Electric air conditioning system
• Battery charge app for smartphones
• 2-ring hob, 39-litre fridge, on board water tank and low voltage LED lighting
• Spinning passenger front seat
• Rear seat that converts from seat to bed in just a few seconds
• One to four berths
Mark Cross, director of Derby-based Hillside Leisure said: “We believe this conversion will be a first in the industry, indeed in the world, and the start of the electric revolution in our market. We went to great lengths to ensure delivery of the brand new Nissan e-NV200 electric van, which is the first one in the country, and we’ve used our in-house team of highly skilled craftsmen to create our unique campervan conversion. We can’t wait to unveil it at the Show, in Hall 11, and look forward to putting it into full production in 2015.
“You’re probably thinking about the practicalities of having an electric vehicle as a campervan and will be curious about charging points. If you haven’t experienced an electric car then you’ll be pleased to hear that there is a fast growing network of charge points and technology already exists to help drivers find their next charging point.”
Zap-Map shows that there are over 7,000 places in the UK that drivers can stop and re-charge their electric vehicle, which takes less time than people might think thanks to quick charging technology.
A dedicated CHAdeMO quick charger can recharge the battery to 80% capacity in as little as 30 minutes – a perfect time to grab a snack on route to a campsite. More than 1,100 CHAdeMO quick chargers are already available to the public and have been installed across Europe, with 220 of those in the UK.

New product launches in the Experts’ Theatre
Hymer, Adria and Auto-Sleepers all debuting new products
For the first time, The Motorhome & Caravan Show 2014 will feature live product launches taking place at the Experts’ Theatre, in Hall 9. Three fantastic debuts will happen exclusively at the Show, with manufacturers talking in person about their amazing innovations and taking questions from the audience.
Adria – on opening day the company launches its brand new Altea 362 LH Forth touring caravan. This addition to the Altea range is a compact caravan with four berths, a modern trendy interior, intelligent lighting and a kitchen more at home in a boutique hotel than a tourer. See the grand unveilings - Tuesday 14th 1.45pm, and Sunday 19th 1.15pm
Show visitors can even win a brand new Altea 362 LH Forth courtesy of a competition run by The Caravan Club. Enter by filling out a form at stands 20.15 – 20.17 during the Show.
Auto-Sleepers – launching its new ‘Wave’ based on the Mercedes Vito. This 2-berth model with a colour coded Reimo pop-top roof is designed to deliver the combination of everyday usability with the ability to go exploring, or pursue a sporting hobby, at the drop of a hat. See the grand unveiling - Friday 17th 1.15pm
Hymer – will launch its exciting new low-profile motorhome, the T SL 568. This four-berth vehicle is a premium model with many upgraded features including a luxury gourmet, standard kitchen and new layouts as well as a huge amount of standard equipment. For visitors looking to buy a motorhome that can tour Europe, and be lived in for weeks at a time, this could be the one. See the grand unveiling - Thursday 16th 1.15pm
Product demonstrations from two of the UK’s leading camper van conversion companies will also take place live in the Experts’ Theatre, including:
Bilbo’s - demonstrating its bestselling and award winning Celex based on the Volkswagen Transporter T5. This campervan benefits from a double bed and a host of innovative storage options. It’s designed to be a multi-use vehicle, equally at home doing the school run or going on holiday to the Mediterranean. See the demonstration - Wednesday 15th 1.15pm
Hillside Leisure – showcasing its Birchover compact campervan. This is an up-market campervan available as either two or four berth and with a choice of pop or hi-top. It’s built on the user-friendly Volkswagen Transporter T5 and can easily be used as a daily driver yet is equally at home on a weekend break with the family. See the demonstration - Saturday 18th 1.15pm
One product launch / demonstration will take place each day of the Show and is a chance for the public to ‘meet the makers’. Who better to talk through a product than the manufacturers themselves? Each session will last 30 minutes in total, with 10 minutes dedicated to audience questions.
Andrew Whalley, NCC Events managing director said: “We know that many people visit our Show to see what is new and exciting in the market, so this initiative in the Experts’ Theatre will undoubtedly resonate with our audience.
“We’ve got an exciting mix of products for the public to see for the first time and as well as witnessing these grand unveilings, visitors will also be able to ask the manufacturers the questions they really want to.”
The Motorhome & Caravan Show 2014 is at the Birmingham NEC from the 14 – 19 October and tickets are still on sale at special advance prices from just £7*. Booking in advance means beating the queues and saving money.

Win a week in Scotland or Verona in a Wingamm motorhome: enter the competition on the Wingamm stand at The Motorhome and Caravan Show
Wingamm, the stylish Italian motorhome brand with modern interior designs and distinctive, aerodynamic fibreglass monocoque bodies, are available in the UK once again, and will be at The Motorhome and Caravan Show, NEC (hall 12, no 145) from 14 to 19 October with full model information and examples of upholsteries available; however, with insufficient space available at the show for a big enough stand to accommodate any vehicles, a Wingamm City-Suite will be on show in the foyer outside Hall 12 instead. An Oasi 610 will also be available for private viewings by appointment at an alternative local venue.
There are five Wingamm motorhome ranges available which all stand out from anything else available thanks to their high quality, modern interiors using light colour schemes and a touch of Italian style, plus their curvy, tough, waterproof, one-piece fibreglass bodyshells:
City-Suite – The size, convenience and looks of a van conversion with all the benefits of a tough and durable Wingamm monocoque, fibreglass body on a Fiat Ducato cab. The rear double bed has the option of being raised or lowered electrically to vary the space available in the garage underneath it, plus there’s also the option of Wingamm’s longitudinal, drop-down double bed over the front dinette to make it a four berth.
It measures 5.99m long, with a maximum weight of 3,500kg and generous 800kg payload. There is a choice of power outputs of 115 bhp, 130 bhp, 150 bhp and 180 bhp, with prices for right-hand drive (RHD) models starting from £51,000.
Micros – A classy, compact, premium monocoque motorhome on a Volkswagen T5 cab and is just 5.3m long, and very car-like to drive. It has a side kitchen, corner bathroom and the convenience and comfort of Wingamm’s longitudinal, drop-down double bed over the front side dinette – making it easier to get out of bed without disturbing a partner – offering four-berths and four belted seats.
The standard 140 bhp engine model costs £60,135. Options include the 180 bhp engine, DSG transmission, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, 120w solar panel, and if metallic paint is specified, the fibreglass body is painted to match.
Brownie – A compact, 130 bhp Fiat Ducato-based, three model range (5.0, 5.8 N, 5.8 GL) with an AL-KO chassis and body lengths of 5.25m and 5.89m. Despite their compact size, stylish, light-coloured furniture and décor make interiors feel particularly spacious and modern. All offer four travel seats and four berths (with twin rear bunks in the 5.8 GL) with the Wingamm longitudinal drop-down double bed over the front dinette.
Prices for RHD models range from £54,819 to £58,230. The list of options includes the Fiat 150bhp or 180bhp engine and automatic transmission.
Oasi – a nine model range with body lengths of 5.4m, 6.1m and 6.9m, all with a maximum weight of 3,500 kg. Every model offers the Wingamm longitudinal, drop-down bed, while the largest 690 models also offer rear double or twin beds over a garage.
All models have maximum weights of 3,500 kg, with prices for RHD Fiat Ducato (130 bhp) ranging from £62,700 to £73,260 with higher power (150 and 180bhp) engines and automatic transmission available, along with options such as a 120w solar panel, alloy wheels, or automatic pneumatic suspension.
Oasi GrandCru – This is the flagship motorhome range from Wingamm, based on the Mercedes Sprinter, with eight models, all with four berths and four travel seats, with maximum weights of 3,500 kg and a maximum length of 7.16 m.
The GrandCru offers the highest levels of luxury, style and sophistication with crisp white interior fittings and a choice of upholstery options. As you’d expect, every GrandCru has the Wingamm longitudinal drop-down bed over the front dinette with layouts offering fixed rear double beds, twin beds and bunks.
The standard power output from the Mercedes Blue-Tec, Euro 6 engine is 130 bhp, but if more power is required, this engine can be upgraded to a 160 bhp or 190 bhp unit, with the option of four-wheel drive. Prices range from £86,442 to £90,750.
Special Wingamm features
Wingamm is very proud of several special features incorporated into the design of its motorhomes. For example, the one-piece monocoque body creates a stronger and safer structure than conventional construction methods, and without any wooden panels or joins to worry about, is completely waterproof – and easy to repair.
The excellent thermal properties include the floor, which is 50mm thick and on Oasi, Grand Cru and Micros models, is also heated for maximum protection and comfort all year long.
All external doors and lockers on the fibreglass body are locked via the vehicle’s remote locking key, and are flush-fitting, without frames like conventional mainstream motorhomes, with completely hidden hinges to give the exterior an extra-smooth look.
The Wingamm pull-down double bed is easy and quick to use, leaves enough room for the dinette below to be used for additional sleeping berths. Unusually, it is fitted longitudinally, which makes it much easier to get in or out without disturbing a partner.
The Wingamm Experience
Wingamm UK is offering potential customers ‘The Wingamm Experience’ of trying one before buying one via a rental fleet operated by its sister company, Aston Leisure. Anyone who orders a Wingamm after hiring one will have their rental cost refunded.
There will be a competition on the Wingamm stand at The Motorhome and Caravan Show to win ‘The Wingamm Experience’ – a week in a Wingamm motorhome in Scotland or Italy.
Wingamm UK is based near Edinburgh and currently the sole importer and distributor for the UK, although hopes to appoint retailers in other parts of the UK in due course.

Latest Press Release
As the Motorhome & Caravan Show 2014 drew to a close on Sunday 19th October more than 96,000* people had enjoyed a fantastic caravanning exhibition, many of whom having never visited the event before. With the economy showing signs of improving, exhibitors indicated that sales had remained strong throughout the show and a huge number of new and exciting products were launched to press and public alike.
Initial analysis indicates that more than 52% of those buying advance tickets had never previously attended the show** before, meaning a significant new audience of buyers was delivered to the NEC.
Exhibitors of different sizes reported more trading than at previous events. For example, Swift Group reported motorhome sales 40% higher than in 2013, Bailey enjoyed a record show, and Pathfinder Homes enjoyed brisk trading with its total sales running into the millions of pounds. The UK’s largest dealer network, Marquis, also reported record sales of over £9.5 million at the show.
Filling 11 halls at the NEC with more than 400 exhibitors, Saturday 18th October was again the busiest day with 26,474 people visiting the show. Visitors remarked that there were many new and innovative products to see. Interest in the Caravisio ‘caravan of the future’, as well as the vintage Swift Eccles President, continued throughout the six days.
In the Experts’ Theatre the new product launch / demonstration sessions were packed as were seminars on buying a motorhome or a caravan, run in partnership with MMM and Practical Caravan magazines respectively.
Attendees were also very interested to hear how Nigel Mansell has been caravanning since he was a child, about the different motorhomes he has owned over the years as well as hearing his take on the current state of F1 racing. Comedian Rowland Rivron entertained the crowds too, about his caravanning adventures, as did windsurfing champion Neil Greentree and the Meek family.
Building on this success, NCC Events has renewed its contract with the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), announcing that its two annual exhibitions – the Motorhome and Caravan Show and the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome show – will continue to be held at the Birmingham venue until 2018.
Andrew Whalley, Managing Director NCC Events, said: “I am extremely happy that we managed to attract a significant number of people who had never visited our Show before and that many exhibitors enjoyed record sales. I’m also delighted that our revamped Experts’ Theatre was such a hit with our visitors and that we have now secured our future at the NEC until 2018. This clearly demonstrates our commitment to stability for the UK’s largest show of its kind, as well as its sister event in February.”
This is what just some of the companies exhibiting had to say about The Motorhome & Caravan Show this year:
Simon Howard – Marketing Director - Bailey
“Quite simply the Motorhome & Caravan Show 2014 was the most successful event in our company’s sixty-five year history. Having sold a large number of caravans and motorhomes prior to the exhibition we were a little apprehensive that we had taken significant numbers of potential customers out of the market. However, the show delivered a fresh audience who turned up to buy our leisure vehicles in record numbers. As a result we now have a forward order book stretching well beyond Easter next year, a position we have not been in since the start of the economic downturn six years ago”.
Nick Page – Commercial Director – Swift
“With promising sales and interest early on in the year, and a product line-up that we felt was very strong across all market sectors, we were optimistic going into the NEC show but still a little unsure about the level of recovery in the economic market.
At the show we saw incredible sales activity not seen for several years. We are delighted with the results, which show a highly encouraging sign of resurgence in the caravan market, right from entry level to the top of the range. We also saw a large number of first time buyers visit and buy from us, which is hugely exciting, and our order book is full well into next year."
Martin Henderson – Managing Director - Coachman
"Our new models generated a huge amount of interest with the public, and sales activity was strong. Our top end products were received extremely well following the introduction of Alde Central Heating within our VIP range, and with the positivity towards our new layouts and changes made within all ranges, together with weight reductions throughout, we all came away from the show with smiles on our faces and look forward to a positive 2015."
Lee Roberts – National Sales Manager– Lunar and Venus
"We were very happy with the response from visitors to our caravan and motorhome ranges. We achieved our sales targets, with Clubman and Delta performing particularly well along with the all-new Venus range. We were particularly delighted with the mix of products sold as it demonstrates that our entire range is popular with consumers and that confidence is returning to the market.”
Rob Quine - Managing Director - Elddis
"We had a very good show this year, our new products gaining positive feedback from the public and press alike, with strong sales figures. There was particular interest in our high-end caravans and motorhomes, in particular Buccaneer, which has been completely redesigned for the 2015 Season. Our motorhome ranges were unveiled at the Motorhome and Caravan Show and continue to have a loyal customer following. Our very latest motorhome offering - the all-new Encore - was unveiled at the show and was enthusiastically received, prior to being launched at dealership level. We enjoyed many engaging discussions with visitors about our SoLiD Construction system, demonstrating that the audience was well informed and ready to buy."
Slavica Sterk - Managing Director - Adria UK
“We had high expectations for the show this year due to our now completely updated model ranges and extremely competitive pricing strategy and our results exceeded them. Our new Altea4Four caravan and Sonic Supreme A-Class motorhome proved real “ head turners” standing out from the other products at the exhibition. Both tourers and motorhomes sold in high numbers and we are delighted with the result and reception of our products. We look forward to an extremely fruitful year and season."
Dave Williams – Sales Director - Auto-Sleepers
“We entered the show with optimism running high on the back of a superb 2014 season and we left the show absolutely delighted having successfully raised the bar again for the start of 2015, attendance was good throughout and customers were there to buy which bodes well for us all in the year ahead.
Mike Wills – Managing Director – Pathfinder homes
"The show was our best ever this year, and we have an order book from it worth many millions of pounds. This bodes well for the 2015 season and we're looking forward with a great deal of optimism to the year ahead."
Andrea Kibler – Sales Manager Northern Europe & Overseas - Hymer
We were overwhelmed by the amount of people attracted to our products at the show, giving great exposure for our HYMER Motorhomes, HymerCar, Hymer and Eriba caravans. We enjoyed excellent sales and high numbers of visitors on our stand, which is fantastic. We will certainly be back next year and are already looking forward to it.”
Tony Hall - Director of Marketing - The Caravan Club
“This show yet again proves the huge popularity of caravanning and motorhoming. Following an extremely dry and warm Summer, that has continued into Autumn, consumers are becoming ever more confident about holidaying in the UK, which was certainly reflected in the high number of new members The Caravan Club signed up at this show. With so many models under one roof this exhibition is the perfect showcase for those looking to take-up the pastime, while the many seasoned caravanners in attendance are able to view the latest designs and upgrade their outfits.”
Paul Jones - Marketing and Communications Director - The Camping and Caravanning Club
“The Camping and Caravanning Club enjoyed a very successful show. We were delighted with the number of new joiners at our main stand, and our Club ‘Friendly Friday’ day with Club President Julia Bradbury was a huge hit among showgoers.
Our Worldwide Motorhoming Holidays and European Travel Service stands attracted large crowds for our presentations on overseas destinations, and we took a record number of holiday bookings. Plus, our free towing experience, in partnership with Hyundai, was again very popular. It was a great end to what’s been a very strong season for the Club.”
Steve Sharpe – Commercial Director - Lowdhams
“We are delighted with our results from the show this year, in fact it was our best ever. We ended 20% up on caravan sales and 30% up on motorhomes, based on 2013 figures which was itself a very good year.
