Hi Patches , when you get your insurance quotes knock the mileage down on your quote, i found was set at 10k as standard so knocked it down to 6k as daughter only needs that and saved a fortune.
Have a look at fiat punto's they are quite good small cars and the fiat panda
Thanks for that Bessie. I had already dropped the mileage down to 8000 but thinking about it, 6000 would be plenty. She only wants to be going to and from sixth form and work really, all local.
Busy checking out Autotrader and Ebay for suitable motors. She seems to have made her mind up to buy the Kia Picanto if she can get a decent one for the price she can afford.
Just bought a Kia Picanto (54 plate) with low mileage. Only 51,000 on the clock (which matches up with MOT history) and genuinely only one previous lady owner (also matches with what is shown on registration). Service history, 4 new tyres, clean and tidy interior. Paid £1300. Did I get a good deal????
Daughter is over the moon, can't wait to pick up her new (to her) motor. Nothing like your first car. I reckon she'll put a fair few miles on the clock in the first few weeks!!
If the car looked to be worth the £1300 you paid you got a good deal. Its not a lot in the grand scheme of things.
I saw what looked to be a bargain today. A Suzuki Wagon R. Ugly as sin, unpopular, but huge inside, only 31,000 miles and a steal at £995 as a first time car.
I know £1300 is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, especially when it comes to motoring, but it is a lot to her....she has saved really hard working a part time job after sixth form (on minimum wage for a 17 year old, in other words not a lot).
Just hoping it won't turn out to be a money pit but it seemed good for its age and the low mileage was the clincher.
Glad she has got one. I paid 2K for mine and my old fiesta 5 years ago.
As i said in a previous post, there was supposed to be an issue with the 54 plate with the engine or cam shaft or something, sorry, not the best on car mechanics, so might be worth a google.
Saying that though, mine is a 54 plate and i have had cam shaft sensor replaced but has always run great. IF my engine light comes on, garage plugs it into their gizmo and just clear light as nothing wrong can be found. Probably just jinxed myself now haha.
Hope your daughter likes her car as much as i like mine (and i loathe driving)sounds like she has got one thats been well looked after.
The Kia is now parked on the drive - it's been vacuumed, polished and given the once over by dad. A trip to Halfords provided new wheel trims, tyre inflator and polish! Booked in for a full service next week so our local bloke can give it the once over.
She is so pleased to be on the road, independent of us, taking herself off to sixth form and then to work. After years of ferrying my kids around, I am now redundant...yes!!
I am impressed with the little Kia - it drives well, only £30 pa to tax it and almost 60 mpg. Group 1 insurance was the main draw. Even with a black box it was almost as much to insure as to buy the thing but it was the best deal we could find.
