I was wondering if anyone had and suggestions on a special piece of jewellery.

I nearly lost my daughter in September, it's been the worst time of my life. To go from a bouncing about teenager one minute to being told she's critical and has a 50/50 chance of survival, it just didn't seem real, it still doesn't. Unbelievably the hospital were adamant that all that was wrong with her was constipation, in actual fact she had a perforated bowel and was dying before their eyes with peritonitis. The whole thing has been an absolute nightmare.

What I'm looking for is something that when I look at it I'll not remember that awful time but something that will make me realise how lucky Iam that I still have her, does that make sense?

How about a Pandora bracelet filled with charms that remind you of her character or interests. I've got one with charms of a computer (eldest son is a techie, a teddy for my youngest son, family holding hands, a little dog, a graduation cap, a heart and my boys initials.

Many years ago a friend of mine got a retired jeweller to make his wife a ring in memory of her mother.
They bought scrap gold and the jeweller made a mould with the design they wanted.
Might be another idea to think about, you could chose something very personal.

What a terrible time you have all been through! It is a parent's worst nightmare.I hope your daughter is now on the way to a full recovery.

This is the Hebrew sign meaning 'life'. I have one in gold on a lovely fine chain necklace.I bought it after a terrible time I had been through.
To me it means that life is for living and that we must make the most of it despite what is thrown at us.Life is so precious.
If you didn't want it on a necklace you could have it on a bracelet.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I had thought of a pandora charm but she's been collecting pandora for years so I had wanted something different. She bought me the mother and daughter pandora heart last year, for some reason she seems to think she has to thank me for looking after her so bought me a mother and baby bear pandora charm.

I'm going to have a look at Swarovski, they do some stunning stuff.

I like the "life" charm, it's beautifull, simple and has meaning. Watching my daughter in intensive care for five days just about finished me off.

A locket with a lock of her hair in it? Or can a craftsman encase a lock of her hair in glass, either as a piece of jewellery or a paperweight?

Must have been an awful time for the whole family - I hope she is recovering well after her experience. The jewellery is a lovely idea; I hope you find something that holds the significance you are seeking. But as someone pointed out, the best jewel of all, you still have, thank goodness - your daughter.

Another symbol meaning 'life' is the Egyptian ankh, which is very decorative and available as jewellery.

I was going to suggest something incorporating an anhk too, Hedgehugger (I have one tattooed on my back).  As a bespoke piece of jewellery you could have something put into the loop at the top of the symbol, rather like a locket.
