Where did i see the thread about selling a car/van thru auto trader?
We just put our vw transporter on and i've had an e mail from someone claiming to work on an oil rig and he will pay the full price by paypal and send a courier to collect.
Needless to say i have deleted the e mail straight away but am i right in thinking this is a scam?
Its only from this forum that i am wary cos i'm sure i've read about such things on here.
I've had my car on Autotrader for a while and I keep getting texts offering me £100 less than the asking price and saying they'll pick it up straight away. I can't remember who they're from because I've deleted them but that's a scam too.
Any place you sell a vehicle, ebay or wherever, you will expect a percentage of scam callers, don't get outraged just accept it comes with the territory. The only genuine buyers will arrive at your home, inspect the vehicle & then its up to the both of you to arrange a mutually acceptable way of transferring funds one way & vehicle the other way. Regard anything other than that as a scam attempt.
Bear in mind that buyers have to be as equally as careful as sellers so direct contact at seller's home address is the only sensible way for both buyers & sellers.

If they are dealers offering cash then not really a scam but you can be sure their cash offer as they wave a fistful of 20s at you will be rather lower than the £100 less. I should have pointed out, derisory offers are part of the selling process as well.
