Any website experts on here? I'm helping a friend out with a small business idea and we need something fairly simple that's easy to use but that we can add to at a later date if all goes well.
Is this kind of thing worth a look? 1&1 There are so many out there some recommendations would be good.

cheers!

Yes I have used them in the past, found the content management system a bit awkward, but that was 6yrs agoso it should be easier now.

good luck

If you buy your own website authoring software you can then choose from any of the website hosting providers and move easily between them for best price.

If you choose to use the authoring tools supplied free by the likes of 1&1 then you are effectively tied to them because althought the web pages when published are html 5 the chances are the source for them will not be available to you and loading them into editing software will involve a lot of work.

Serif X7 ( and there are loads of others available ) costs under 60 quid or so.

Basically its up to you whether you want the ease and initial cheapness of taking on board and using the hosting company's tools or you choose your own and then have freedom of movement between suppliers.

Bear in mind that 1&1 et all only really offer customisable templates for your website design. If you buy your own software you can pretty much do what you like.

Best Regards

David

I use Weebly - a free website maker/host.    I have my own domain name.

http://www.pollyoleary.co.uk/

You can try making your own website free here

http://www.weebly.com/

Lots of features and you can customise with HTML if you want to as well

You can also optimise the website for mobile devices and link to social media.

i got a local guy to do mine.Did a very good job too.Trouble with doing it yourself is you are limited to the same templates as everyone else.I got e.s web design and cost me 200 quid.It looks great and as i know nothing about websites he makes alterations when needed at 10 quid.Otherwise costs virtually nothing. My website is www.barkersvintageamusements.co.uk    take a look and see what you think

Awww Thank You Graham, you're very kind

But the website thing isn't so easy for me, I hate spending time struggling with programs and learning new ones, when I could be painting.    Weebly was dead easy and gave me exactly what I wanted.

Even the stock templates are totally customiseable so you get the look you want

There's also the option to upgrade and remove the weebly name :-)

You can have your domain with them, or use your own if you have one.
