Does it actually do anything? Just started using it in my diesel Mondeo with 148,000 on the clock.
I haven't seen anyone else use it since the 70's when I was a petrol pump attendant, and even then it was just old men that bothered.
If you believe the internet the best thing to put in the fuel of a diesel engine is 5cc of semi syth 2stroke oil per litre of diesel, ie 200:1 mix. It does sound ok because it will raise cetane number of fuel to make engine run smoother & lubricate pump & injectors.
Low sulphur diesel of today is less 'oily' than yrs ago so 2stroke is supposed to be beneficial on an older diesel. Modern diesels should be designed to run on modern fuel so should not need any additive.
Redex diesel additive is probably different from the Redex of yesteryear which was supposed to clean valve seats.
It will take a few doses till you notice anything.A word of warning though. If you put in too much it will burn the valve seals i know i did it many moons ago.Your better to use a diesel like shell which contains additives and will clean your engine just the same.
i alway found forte diesel treatment the best , as a taxi driver i used to put a 400cc bottle to half a tank of diesel just before it went in for its taxi plate it cleans the fuel sytsem & injectors & helps lower the emmision very good stuff.
I always found this stuff to be excellent, gives increased mpg and keeps the injectors very clean.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Agree with Julian 02. My hubby always used forte in his taxi and since retiring we use it in our X reg mercE320 and we never have any problems. My brother also uses it in his fleet of milk delivery trucks. we get ours on amazon for the best price.
We have just bought some Wynnes, but our neighbour who knows about cars says not to use any such thing very much, but to use super diesel fuel now and again and to give the car a good hard run every now and again. We had the dreaded dcp light come on but have now done all of the above with no further problems, touch wood.
Why not fill the car up with the "Ultimate" diesel as it works out cheaper in the long run? Of all the additives Millers is probably the best and highly recommended on many sites.
However as per an earlier post low ash mineral 2 stroke oil is just as good with many people reporting cleaner burning engine and improved fuel consumption. I think the ratio is about 200ml to 50 litres of diesel.
WHICH Magazine did a survey on all these injection and Cat cleaners early this year.
The Highest scoring was a product made in Liverpool ( but cant remember name )
If you go on line you can trial Which one off. you maybe able to bring up copy of survey on above or e-mail which for back copy of trial.
I buy a bottle of Wynns at trade price which does two full tanks IE once a year week prior to Mot always lower than new emissions according to manual but never brings my road fund down

If you take the extra cost of the Wynns it would works out the same as filling up with the Super fuel?
I always mix Redex with diesel bought from supermarket fuel outlets as I believe their diesel lacks additives. When I had a H reg Discovery, Shell diesel made a noticeable difference to performance. My mate who runs an MOT centre says a bottle of Redex thrown in prior to MOT guarantees a pass on the emissions test unless there's something drastically wrong with the engine.
I read recently that Top Gear did a bhp test on a well worn engine and after treatment with Redex, there was a 7bhp improvement on the rolling road. I get it from Costco where it's quite reasonably priced. I run a Toyota Rav4 which I've had from new, now done over 60,000 and runs absolutely superb.

Surely it is just as cheap or cheaper to fill up at a BP or Shell service station?
Most additives either already in the fuel or from a bottle contain among other things a cetane booster which increases ignition speed & so reduces 'diesel knock' which is fuel failing to ignite before piston is past top of stroke causing excess noise & loss of power. Adding 2stroke oil also raises cetane number.
Modern diesels have ECU which can to a certain extent compensate for low cetane number so the addition of additive is not as noticable as in an 'old technology' indirect injection diesel. Additives do more than boost centane number though & are claimed to include detergents to keep egr valve, dpf & injectors cleaner & also improve lubricity of fuel which might save on repair bills if one intends to keep car for a high mileage.
