disgusted and astonished at the attitudes coming mainly from women with remarks such as the one above!
new mums find it difficult enough to get out the house and have some sort of social life and doing the normal home duties without that sort of view from a group that should be supportive and understanding towards a woman with a baby and just learning and gaining confidence
The 'supportiveness & understanding' does not have to be proactive. It can just come from folks not having any sort of issue with public breastfeeding however the mother wants to do it. Neither for nor against, just indifference. Its no different from you sitting in a cafe drinking coffee.

Beast feeding done discreetly no prob. I wouldn't like to go into a restaurant and view it if mum and baby are in a quiet corner feeding no prob but in a busy part of restaurant personally I would walk out and go else were to eat.
Would you walk out if a baby was being bottlefed? If not then I suspect it is the idea of a baby sucking a woman's nipple that disgusts you! Which is what the problem is all about, I think. I've seen lots of women breastfeeding and have only once seen rather more boob on display than was necessary. The mums outside - and the one inside - have no boob on display at all. You can't see a boob. So I repeat, the problem lies with people who cannot cope with the fact that women are using their bodies to feed a baby.
Being a mum I never say anything to mums breast or bottle feeding keep my feelings to myself but I have a right to walk away from breast feeding mums if it makes me feel uneasy no matter how natural it is ect it's personal choice nothing to do with the use of breasts as has been suggested. Just a personal view I choose to walk away and would rather not have to view breast feeding if I am trying to eat.

------------- You only live once live life to the full
To all those, male and female, who have made comments similar to the one linked to by "firstclass67" above, I have to ask, do you also find it disgusting to see topless bathers on the beach?
It strikes me that there are lots of double standards in this thread.
My wife breast fed all 3 of our children, all now in their 30's, and did it discretely where ever we were, from visiting museums to sitting in cafes. I can remember a few "tut's" but I remember more approval often from the older generation.
And for all those that come to Llanidloes, the Great Oak Cafe here is a member of the "Breast Friendly" chain, that encourages breast feeding mum's.
Reading Back Rod/gof you have this bee in your bonnet.
I think you have a way of twisting things and not taking in what i and other people have said so im going to clarify it for you.
1..myself and others have NO problems with breast feeding in public,
2..What we are against is NUDITY in a PUBLIC place..
Now,your views on nudity, so i see, differs from others on here with a statement you said, and i respect you for it.
Now to my mind, the Mods were right by taking off my joke about the Hula hoop from this forum as,its not suitable for here, because a lot of people would find it offensive as well as some people may not see the funny side of it.
I think a womans nude body IS sexy thats because im a man.
You will never change the way people have been brought up with their values in life and i hope you respect that to.
As you say additudes can vary greatly and its very obvious that people feel very different which I why I walk away from situations I don't feel comfortable with.

I guess that if the mum that was feeding her baby was asked to that they would rather you didn't try to eat either! the only way you would see anything would be is if you where trying to eat with your face over her shoulder and actually making a deliberate point of watching! so are you on another table in the room or sat right next to her? if another table what a shame that the company you are with isn't so enthralling to hold your attn. that you choose to watch a mum feeding her baby
This a rather a strange thread for the 21st Century, having a discussion on women breast feeding in public. I think it is about time people got over themselves, for goodness sake, it does not matter, whether someone has a whole boob out or not. If someone feels embarrassed or uncomfortable, even disgusted, the problem lies with that person.
Noone needs to gawp for goodness sake. It is rather rude and ill mannered to gawp anyway.
It must be a cultural thing, are people going to go round other cultures to them to get dressed because they are half naked.

Sorry but you seem to keep going on about relating sexual feelings and breastfeeding.
Because this is the reason some people do not like to see breastfeeding in public, explain what other reasons could there be other than relating breasts, sexual therefore not suitable for exposure in a public place?
All I have tried to do here is to discover just why some folk appear to object to public breastfeeding even if they justify their objections by pointing out it should be 'discreet' & so on expecting mums to consider some folks 'feelings' on the matter as well as attending to the needs of a hungry baby.
There should be no 'for' or 'against'(or 'for' provided mum conducts herself in a 'discreet' manner)Just indifference to it.
