Last week, I received a very formal looking E mail from Halifax bank suggesting that as internet banking facility has not been used for some time, it needs to be used to keep access current. It contained my user number too. I forwarded to to the bank who confirmed it was a scam and reiterated what I already knew, which was not to ever access bank from an E mail link.

These scammers are able to copy logos and details very accurately.

Telephone cold calls and scams has just been discussed on our local radio station. Part of the discussion was how to deal with calls. One woman has a joke laughter box she sits the phone beside it, another puts the radio on, and puts the phone beside it.

My OH had a phone call from his bank on Saturday asking him to call them back. I stopped him. He rang the bank on Tuesday. They have no record of this call and told him they would never ring on a weekend.

I have fun with the Windows Virus man. And then there is the PPI caller where they say Lloyds, HSBC ... are automatically refunding PPI and the caller can help me claim. When I ask if its automatic why do i need help they hang up.

OH gets angry when one of these people call because I am up for a bit of fun and devilment. Having been made redundant and now not working I miss the company of my work friends and any contact with the outside world is great fun.

I had a phone call saying they heard I was involved in an accident.....
Yes I told her , It was 2 years ago,..." Oh tell me more" she said eagerly, ...Well, I was driving my " Artic" when an old lady on her push bike , with stabilisers on the back, and a wicker basket and horn on the handlebars, came out of a side turning, hitting me side on........And KILLED me.....I. waiting in heaven now for my compensation..............she paused then put her manager on the line. Hello sir, I understand you have had an accident in the last 3 years, he said gleefully, I repeated my story again, he paused , then she came back on the line and said to me........" You are a very silly man" . Then hung up....
Funny thing is, I have not been bothered by that sort of call now for a good couple of months......
So next time you get one of those calls, play along with them, have some fun at their expense .... :-)

nowt better to do than annoy us with crappy calls

yet when anyone has a bit of fun where the silly ones.

i do love winding up cold callers

as for spam mail just get there ip addy send it back to them and tell them thanks for all the passwords and details of there computers, tend not to send anymore

We were warned by BT about a scam that's hitting our area on Monday. They phone up asking for the account holder with what looks like a BT 0800 faults team number on caller display. As we're having calls almost every second day from BT concerning an ongoing major complaint, I made the ghastly mistake of saying the account holder was out. Next day, they rang again and son answered - fortunately in intervening period he'd had the warning from BT so knew what to do. Since then, bombarded by emails purporting to be from BT - forwarded to abuse at bt.com as all are coming from bt addresses.

I have to take withheld nos as that's what the Council use - they now know I'll answer in Gaelic - puts a lot of cold callers off!!

I had one just last week, said it was Lloyds TSB bank, said they had found an error in my account and they owed me money....yippy... I put the phone down. Tried to phone Lloyds bank security to alert them of the scam, but I could'nt get through. The phone number of the scammers is 08437 240315. I looked the number up on google and it said that numbers starting with 08437 is usually a scam. BTW, I don't have a Lloyds account.

My (retired, lots of time to waste) friend responds to cold callers by trying to sell them sheets of corrugated metal (not that he has any to sell). He was delighted last week when he kept someone on the phone for a full quarter hour.

If I don't recognise the number, I don't answer - but I look it up out of curiosity. I have noted almost 3 dozen different numbers related to apparent computer viruses. I never answer withheld or international. If it's important, the person will leave a message. Ditto emails, if I don't recognise the name, I'll open with caution but never open any attachments or reply to it. I sometime forward it to the relevant organisation but they can't do much. If N Korea can hack into Sony, what chance do we minnows have?
