Anyone tried the Sea bands for sea sickness. If so did they work. When we go to Scotland with the motorhome later in the year my OH wants to go to the Shetlands and I suffer with sea sickness and not to sure about it. Thanks for any advice

They work for me!

We have done the Norwegian Coastal Voyage twice (2,500 miles in a round trip), once in the summer with blissfully calm seas, the other in October with force 9-10 gales for more than 24 hours! This was during the most northerly part of the journey in the Barents Sea.
The sea bands kept the sickness at bay but I must confess to feeling a bit queasy but that was all. Without them I would have been really sick. although my OH reckons that 'it's all in the mind', if it is, then so be it, at least it worked!

May work for some not others.

What do work are stugeron sea sickness tablets. We had two hours in 4m swells on the fast ferry to Guernsey and after took tablets before we sailed. All 5 of us were fine.

I've been told the bands work; alternatively, find the acupressure point near your wrist and press it regularly http://www.naturalhealthmag.com/expert-advice/how-can-i-relieve-motion-sickness Don't go below decks, stay up in the fresh air (which may mean wearing a cosy hat & gloves & warm coat even in summer), keep your eyes on the horizon, avoid the smell of frying from the cafe as even an iron stomach can start churning then, keep upwind of the fumes from the funnel for the same reason, and finally distract yourself with bird watching (diving gannets, puffins, skuas etc - it's brilliant for birds) or chatting to people or strolling about. It'll be worth it to get to Shetland. Then, once you're OK on a ship, aim to do the Hurtigruten (Norwegian Coastal Voyage) which Angela recommends -  a giant ferry that hugs the coast, the 12 day round trip was one of the absolute highlights of my life and I'd do it every year if I could.

I don't suffer from sea sickness but they worked a treat for morning sickness for both my pregnancies.

My daughter used Sea bands as a teenager on both long coach journeys and flights. She has recently used them during pregnancy. They have worked for her all the time

My husband suffers from seasickness, and finds the bands quite good for just slight to moderate seas, but if things get really rough, like they did one Christmas around the canary islands, he takes the Boots own brand travel sickness pills and finds them very good.

The general advice on seasickness, issued by the cruise operators, is to stay midships and go to the lowest deck possible. This is to reduce the amount of rise and fall you would experiance with the swell of the sea if you were on the Bow of the ship, or to a lesser extent on the Stern.
The principle is very similar to a childs seesaw, the centre part stays firmly anchored, whilst the greatest rise and fall is at each end. Likewise, the higher the the centre fixed point of the seesaw, the greater the travel height at each end. This principle is why most ship's medical centres are situated on the lower decks at midships, not just for seasickness, but to give the medics more chance of a steady hand when carrying out proceedures at sea should the need arise.

At the risk of hijacking your post lthoel2,(sorry). Just had to respond to Fiona W about the Hurtigruten.
The very first one of these trips I did was in 1966!! & the wonderful memories stayed with me always. My OH & I went in 2011 to celebrate our ruby anniversary & we went again with a friend in the summer of 2013, last Feb we two along with our daughter, grand daughter & youngest son did the stretch from Tromso/Kirkenes/Tromso to see the aurora, we had such a good time that we are off to Norway again in Feb half term but staying in Tromso for the week as our seven year old grandson is coming too & my daughter does not trust him on icy decks!!
Norway is v addictive!

They worked for me during chemotherapy during the first few stages, agree you need to get the acupressure point right. As I go sicker they didn't work so well so I guess the answer is how badly the sickness affects you.

I hope you don't feel insulted by my saying this but my dog used to suffer badly with travel sickness, we used all sorts of medication but he was always sick until we tried Dorwest Skullcap and Valerian tablets. He was never sick again so perhaps find the human equivalent to try
