We bought a Phillip hot air fryer,tried oven chips,frozen, and proper chips,not impressed,gone back to the Delonghi rotary fryer with real chips,why do people eat those awful oven chips, they are tasteless,I turn the fryer on,peel the potatoes, rinse them,the fryer is then ready,takes about 6-7 mins to fry,quicker than waiting for the oven to reach temperature then do oven chips

If you just want to deep fry in oil, then get a cheap electric fryer. Aldi, Asda, Tesco etc do one for about £25

If you want a healthy version, then the actifry or phillips air fryer are what you want.

I would never go for a pan on the hob these days...no control over temperature, massive risk of spilling, just not safe really.....but then I am a Health & Safety Professional!!!!

Oven chips are deep fried (partly) then frozen, so no different from frying in oil,so doing them in a air fryer isnt healthier, taste disgusting anyway.

This is exactly what we do. We eat home made chips a couple of times per year. Dont bother with chips any other time. Ordinary heavy saucepan with a couple of inches of oil. With 2 fried eggs and soft sliced bread with lurpak butter! A real treat. Cant beat it!

Re the health and safety comment. Absolutely, care must be taken. I dont leave the pan and have no kids running about. Wouldnt consider it otherwise.

After lots of thought, I have decided to buy a normal chip pan from Lakeland. It is stainless steel, is heavy and has no sticking out handle, just two round handles, one on each side.

I decided that the electric ones are just too large for such minimal use. It would probably end up in the wardrobe along with the breadmaker.

Thanks for all the advice as it helped me consider all options and come to a conclusion that is best for me.

The traditional chip pan is easier to clean and will produce chips that are as good as any.

We have a slow cooker that has been used once and a mincing machine that has been used twice.

I use my slow cooker loads, soups, stews, whole chickens, pulled pork, baked potatoes.......stick it on before work, tea ready when I get home.

We have an Actifry, makes lovely chips, never had a problem with frozen or fresh ones. And, as someone has already said, it's a multi use so does a lot more than chips. The thing I really like is, it stirs the stuff as it cooks so no standing over a pan, how lazy is that, lol!!
