...But then the dog might be jealous....
...and if it's not allowed to be lonely, then perhaps it shouldn't be given cause to be jealous....
Points for consideration:
- if the dog gets jealous, is it large enough to cause personal injury and damage?
- if the wife gets jealous, is she large enough to cause personal injury and damage?
- if the SIL prefers the dog to you, is she large enough to cause personal injury and damage?

Last year we stopped off to see my cousin and his family on our way down to Dover. We fed our Toby, made sure he did his business and then left him in the van while we went to my cousin's for tea. It would never have occurred to me to take him - they don't have a dog and not everyone wants dog hair and dog smell in their house! And dogs in a strange house or with strange people can be needy and I wouldn't want to spend all my time having to tell him to behave.

If your sister-in-law is a non smoker, take up smoking when she is at your house, and keep blowing it in her face, or if you go round to her house, light up and puff away to your hearts content... she might just get the hint

If she is so bothered about leaving it at home on its own why didnt she just say she would tie it up outside. Sounds more like the dog is just a other excuse to cause an argument.

Off camping in a few hours. I was planning on inviting you all round for tea, biscuits and holiday slides on Sunday evening, but some of you may want to bring dog's ... so to avoid confrontation, I'll eat all the biscuits myself.

All invitations are cancelled!!   Yer all barred!

As a one-time dog owner, I'd never take the dog with us if we were just going visiting. I also didn't want people bringing their dogs into my house so I invented a story that one of the kids had an 'allergy' and might get an 'attack' if the dog came in..... :)

Had a laugh at some of the replies.

This dog isnt the womans only 'child', she has a son and husband and cats to occupy her besides.

Its good to know that many dog owners here back my stance. And if it turns out i am banned from her house, so be it.
Ive even worked at their house in the past, and been told to make sure i take my muddy boots off before walking on their nice wooden floors. Which would be second nature anyway. So wheres the difference?

So in her house it's her rules , and also where ever else she happens to be ? Sounds like a very uncompromising woman who insists on her own way .. Very rare thing .. In the words of basil fawlty , she should be stuffed and mounted ! Come to think of it , wasn't that s g thomas' suggestion also ;-)

I love dogs (most dogs) but I have one friend with a really annoying little dog that she likes to bring everywhere because it yaps when she leaves it at home.

I wouldn't be keen on that one in my house to be honest. It could stay in the garden, but I imagine it would just bark all the time.

I would never presume to bring an animal to someone else's house.

I have a well trained dog BUT when i visit my friend and his son is there with his 2 dogs, they p**s all over the house,
my friend and his wife are so polite to there son, she follows them round with a doggie deodorizer spray.
If you dont want dogs in your house thats your choise, stick with it.
