It looks like its official Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for qualifying machines, whatever that means.
And so it should be considering the mess they made of 8
windows 10    scroll down the page

I didn't bother with 8 or 8.1 but 10 looks quite interesting.

I do not know what the fuss is about windows 8 I have run it since its release ( and before) and it works fine, 8.1 improves it by making things more customisable and allowing you to boot into the desktop. I have been running windows 10 for about a month now and to be honest I can not see many changes that make a difference, though it does now have an easily accessible power button.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

It appears that anybody with a Windows 7 or 8/8.1 laptop or PC & Windows 8 phone or tablet will be able to free upgrade to Windows 10 for a period of a year after launch. It seems its commercial users like companies with a large amount of computers that will not get a free upgrade but ordinary individual users will.

According to Computeractive magazine, Microsoft website states "Once a qualified Windows device" (as above) "is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it up to date for the supported lifetime of the device.... (my underlining)

That is quite correct, but you will have 1 year to upgrade your current Windows 7 or 8/8.1 device to Windows 10 once it is launched.

I lept from Windows 7 to 10. To me some of the BAU items in 7 were logical and straight forward as is anything with enough repeated use. Windows 10...some things feel like a step backwards, and its simply a case of having to revisit the top tabs and experiment a little. Something as straight forward as setting margins on a page became a chore intially, or embedding a document. You now embed an 'object'.

Excel spreadsheet are a bit of a pain in W10 as they ahev security features with permissions to edit which I was not used to...

It is frustrating but be tenacious and beat it 17

If you are using Windows 10 now in beta then presumably you have input in its development anyway?

I'm not sure what you mean, a preview beta version of 10 is available for download now but full & finished version will not be released until later this year, I thought?

All I know is that our IT department sourced a licence to opertae 2010. We are aHUGE Plc so we have to install the most up todate software to provide a service to industry standard. We are software developers!!!!  I have had 2010 for a good 6 months.

There is no licence available for windows 10 as yet. There is a windows 10 technical preview available that keeps on updating itself and which users of are asked to keep reporting on. If your tech department have installed windows 10 on every machine they have taken a significant risk as when a person installs it they have to accept that there might be significant errors appearing.

The driver base for windows 10 is far from complete and many iceboxes that are installed do not work

Having re read this I think we are getting hold of the wrong end of the stick. Windows 10 has no effect upon how Word or Excell work at all, it does not make any changes to the Ribbon in the Word or Excel windows. I think you have confused an upgrade that your company have made from using Office 2010 to using Office 365.
The original point of the thread was to consider the changes tha Microsoft are making yo the Operating System, not changes to the Software that runs within the Operating System.
