managed to catch a glimpse of it through the clouds at 930ish perfect, but short time span only no need for specs because of the high level of cloud between me and sol 20 or so miles further north - no clouds so ideal south yorks and cotswolds perfect too
brilliant managed to see it in norther france in 99 in similar cloudy conditions roll on 2026 (i hope)
not understanding why some people describe it as `media hype'. In some areas there was as much as 98% visibility. Depends on the weather in the area you were in! Saw nothing here unfortunately it was much too cloudy, but some friends got lovely photos.

Was I going to drag myself out of bed at half past nine in the morning just to see the moon sail past the sun?
The moon didn't sail past the sun Bob, it was sailing around it.
We were lucky enough to have clear skys here in south wales we watched it through black plastic we also had clear skys in 99 and watched from our garden.
I've only seen the bore on Morecambe Bay once, despite living nearby for nearly 20 years. It was in the 1980's, we were on a visit to family in Ulverston and walked down the lane to the shore, just in time to see it come in. Heard it first, the noise was incredible.
I sat in my car for 2 hours on Friday at a good viewpoint, while breaks in the cloud provided a sort of time-lapse view of the eclipse. The clouds turned pink around the edge, and it looked like the Close Encounters film when the space ship lights up the sky. I sketched it as I remember things best if I draw them. At near total coverage, it got really cold, an odd wind blew up, and the sea birds all disappeared from the sky. It was a magical experience but also a bit eerie. I would have been very sorry to miss it.

Was in Cornwall for the 99 one and it was cloudy but the clouds broke over us for this one and saw the whole journey. Awesome!
