OK good folks. We were talking last night and have decided that next year we would like to fit in a week's camping round an event in the UK. So, I am looking for some ideas. Looking for something that is guaranteed to be busy with a good atmosphere so no local fete type events (unless they are big and busy enough to get excited about). I'm discounting the obvious Wimbledon, Isle of Man races, any horse-racing event, marathons and Edinburgh Festival. It doesnt need to be a sporty-type event. I'm sure there are events throughout the UK I've not heard of. This may be of interest to others too. You've never let me down yet.

I have always fancied going to an historical re-enacment weekend. I think they have them at Warwick Castle and at Battle (Hastings) to name 2.

You can go to the camping and caravan show at the NEC, pitches are cheap, in a car park!, very busy and lots of atmosphere.

It depends what you enjoy doing. Harewood House near Leeds has lots of Events. The Fathers Day weekend classic car, traction engine show is always packed, plus you get the house and bird garden to have a look around.

Upton on Severn Blues Festival in July. Great atmosphere, and a camping field within 5 mins walk of the town. You pay to camp, but seeing the bands is free!

Thanks folks. We have varied interests and a lot of recommendations here look interesting. I'm not really interested in the festival-campy thing, I would rather camp a bit away and drive to the venue/area.

Another vote for the Great Dorset steam fair if you have never been. It's not all about steam by any means.

Bath & West show? Or any similar show loosely based on agriculture.

Yorkshire cycle race - I guess there will be one.
