Copper nails killing trees is an urban myth - unless anyone has proof otherwise.

We have cut the branches today. DH went round to next door, he wasn't in, but his partner was. We offered the branches to them but also offered to dispose of them. Anyway she said to pass them over the fence which we did. He didn't look to happy when he came home.

Copper nails are best way to prune an annoying neighbours tree ,
in six months it will be dead and it have to be cut down problem solved.
Would that also kill the annoying self-seeded elderberry tree that simply refuses to die? I chopped the damn thing down to a few inches, and it's still sprouting new growth and putting out suckers.

copper nails are the recommended form of fixing, for items to trees. As they are more Chain Saw safe, with there being less risk of damaging the cutting chain, resulting in a large bill, or hours of resharpening.
Or more dangerously, causing Kick Back, where the Chain Saw, actual kicks away from the wood.
If you wish to use a non chemical method to kill off the elderberry tree, strip the bark completely off the trunk, for at least 1m. The living area is just under the bark, expose that to attack, and the Tree will die off.

Thanks for that.
There's only about 1' of stump left, but I'll try de-barking it, AND try the diesel or engine oil. I'm beginning to think it's indestructible. I have fantasies about blowing it up, but it's a bit near the house for that.

I have used stump killer sealed with wooden plugs into four one inch holes bored 4 inches into the stump.
Even killed holly and they hang on in there to the very end.
