Aww, how sad. I met him twice in my teenage years, a lovely softly-spoken gentleman who was happy to spend time talking to me, signing my show programmes and having his photo taken with me.

I have a very temperamental personality - 50% temper and 50% mental
Sweet and gentle man who deserved respect despite not being quite my genre. Loved his golf, cooking and a fairly talented painter.
He always recalled when he first came to England and lived in a small place overlooking the scene of the Harrow rail crash in the early fifties. He was one of the people who heard and responded to the crash, helping the injured and removing bodies and bits from the wreckage.
He never really got over that honorific experience despite his cheery public persona.
RIP and Walk Tall.

Do you know, this really saddened me when I heard. I am the generation that grew up watching his shows on a Saturday night with my family. He always came across as such a lovely man, and two years older than my dad would've been had he lived to today.
