I opened a resolution request on the 16th May for something I was told was posted on the 8th May and hadn't arrived. eBay opened a request and then closed it on the 17th June while I was on holiday. I was away for 6 weeks and hoped the item would be there when I got home but it wasn't.
Now I can't open a new resolution or complaint because it's been opened and closed. I emailed eBay yesterday and got a response saying the request has been closed. I have messaged the seller twice this week but haven't had any response from him.
I can't find any way to resolve this in the resolution centre as it keeps taking me round in circles. Has anyone else had a similar problem and how did you resolve it?
I have never had this exact situation but I have used the resolution centre a few times. I no longer have an ebay account because I got fed up with the hassles and find I can buy what I want online in other, more reliable, places and have had 100% success in selling things via Gumtree.
However, to get back to your problem, ebay have a system which they stick to rigidly for the benefit of both parties so if you did not follow their rules and they closed the case down in your absence, they are unlikely to open it again. You could try phoning them and they may give you advice like going to the small claims courts or trading standards etc; but they are unlikely to be interested further.
I've just received a message from the seller saying he's sent the item twice. I find it hard to believe as nothing has arrived.
I can't find a phone number for eBay and everything just sends me round in circles back to the resolution centre. I can't even report the seller, it just does the same thing. The small claims court would be no good, the item is under £10 - just £10 I really can't afford to throw away.
I've never had a problem with eBay before and I've been using them for years. I've opened one or two cases before but they've always been resolved quickly with no problems.
Try freephone number : 08003586551. I have used this but not sure if they change it everynow and again..it may also just be a Monday till Friday number but worth a try.

Thank you. I'll see if anything comes of the Paypal dispute first. I don't actually think I'll get my money back if the seller says he's sent it twice already but it's worth a try.
Check that the seller has your correct address, also seller should be able to give you copy of Proof of Posting. This will at least show you that seller is telling the truth. What is sellers feedback like?
I have phoned Ebay in the past regarding the same problem, they read from a script and are not allowed any flexibility.
check the sellers feedback to see if there is anything similar that has happened previously, some are rather dubious, not saying this person is... but other than that give them a negative feedback, that gives them a bit of sore head,

p-roof of posting is not good enough for ebay to award the seller , anyone selling anything on ebay is well advised no matter what the cost of the item to have it sent by a tracked service for situations such as these

Having come across this issue in the past, I have found Ebay will not bend their rules.
Hence I pay my PayPal account with a credit card then if it all goes wrong and I have to say that's very rare IME, you can get your CC company to reverse the payment.
PayPal get angry and threaten all sorts but if they want you as a customer and they do, they will eventually have way.

Most ebayers said are honest people so ask for proof of posting, if provided then you have to deal with the post office and you will need a strong stomach to do that.
If no proof of posting you are in a difficult place as you did not follow EBay dispute rules.

I haven't checked that he's got the right address but the address is correct on both eBay and PayPal. I had a problem with a buyer many years ago who had a different address on each and I didn't notice until after I sent the item. He then told me the correct address was the other one and requested his money back from PayPal on the basis that I hadn't sent the item! It cost me £17 in PP admin fees.
I didn't think to ask him for proof of purchase to be honest. The item was only £6-something but it's the principal of the thing and I now have to find another one. It was for someone's birthday (I'm not that mean, it was part of something else!) on the 6th June so the moment's gone anyway.
I would ask him to confirm the postal address, I once had this problem, despite me double and triple checking it was the correct postal address on my confirmations from eBay and PayPal (it was) the seller had received my old address from them! It was a glitch in their systems and eBay ended up compensating both me and the seller as it was their fault, I'm sure cases like this are rare but it obviously can and does happen.
Martins money had a warning recently about paying PayPal by credit card. Your credit card protection WILL NOT apply. I didnt know that either. Take care.

That was if you pay an Internet retailer by PayPal The way I read it.

That's section 75 protection for goods over £100 and only in certain circumstances.
Best to pay the retailer directly using your CC for over £100 purchases.
I was talking charge back .......quote from the website.
- If your card is used directly through PayPal. If there’s no money loaded and your card is used directly to make a transaction through PayPal then chargeback should apply.
