I received an email this morning supposedly from the Inland Revenue with regards to a tax rebate. Now I know that they don't send out emails requesting your bank details, driving licence and passport numbers but can understand how some people fall for it as it looks genuine with even Welsh on it.
------------- Wish I could go camping more and not have to work for a living!!!
When I worked in a bank, scam emails were always a problem. The scammers pretty much know they have to be very good to fool most people.
It's just really comes down to knowledge of not giving your details to anyone if you're even a little bit unsure. Always find their phone number and call them. It's the safest way.
Funnily enough just after I posted this, a cheque for my OH came through the door for £358. The email said I had a £258 rebate coming. What a coincidence.

Mine said £258 too so probably is just a coincidence! I used to work for the Tax office then went into payroll management so had already calculated that only £25 was due back!
I've had a couple of reminders from the HMRC via email that I am owed tax and that I've still not given them my credit card number so they can refund it onto that!!!
Considering I don't work and have a small pension and am therefore not paying tax its a bit rich that I can't get it by cheque!!!
I got one from Barclays bank asking me to confirm my banking details - ha,ha - except that I've never had dealings with Barclays.
I just move them into my JUNK mail, if not already there, and click the Block All box.
Bertie.
