Am looking to come to East Sussex in September but have been told that a lot of the seaside towns are boarded up and there is a problem with immigrents. Being under canvas we are a bit concerned about security so I was wondering if anyone lives in that area and can tell what the situation is like. Would be grateful for any information.

Don't worry, there isn't really a prob, that's all on the other side of the channel. Those that do get into here and aren't caught hightail it for the big cities to the north and those that do get caught are in detention centres. But if you are aiming for the E. Sussex coast, avoid the Kentish motorways, M20/M2 . Head for the coast further to the west and then come east along the coast road, A259 to wherever you want to be cos atmo it's not unusual to have a couple of thousand stationary trucks clogging up the M20 creating probs on all the other roads in the area.......Mick

We have stayed recently at the Horam touring park, and spent time in Eastbourne. We found the area perfectly 'normal' and had no issues. Think that is East Sussex?

There have been recent reports in the press of migrants being housed in cheap hotels both in the UK and abroad, but that could be coming to any town in any country I guess these days, if you believe them.

Yes it's completely out of control here in Rye! Marauding gangs of immigrants everywhere, I've just finished boarding up my house for extra security, I'm really surprised this hasn't made the news, don't come if you want to get out alive!

OMG we are visiting in September too should we surround the tent with razor wire. Lol

I think they mean places close to Dover might have some, but definitely the motorways are your biggest worry

Yes don't come to East Sussex, especially Bexhill which is awash with retired imigrants from Essex. They are all on 'benefits' and causing a massive strain on the NHS.

I don't see a problem...take a few tents with you and make a few bob renting them out.

I wouldn't worry too much. Most asylum seekers are being dispersed into housing all over the country. We have a house full of young men just down the road from us. They are all Somalians.

On the plus side, they do raise the cultural tone.

Well, you know what they say - Newhaven for the continent, Bexhill for the incontinent.

Lots of lovely countryside, pretty villages and small towns, but I think I'd give Eastbourne a miss. It's gone downhill rather in recent years.

There's no issues with asylum seekers trying to stow away on the Dieppe-Newhaven crossing. Apparently, a couple tried it, got to Newhaven, decided they were better off in Mogadishu and got the next boat back.
