We have just been to Leicester from Manchester. £32.50 for both of us. The train was clean, buffet service, reserved seats and on time. It took two hours.
Not worth the hassle of the M62 and M1.
I think it depends or where you are and where you want to go. I wouldn't dream of taking the car down to London (from Peterborough) for a day out because of the hassle of parking etc. If I book early it £28 return and £3:50 into town and back on the bus.

Since I passed my driving test I can count on the fingers of 2 hands the amount of times I have used public transport...
That'll be as much as twelve times then, if you're from the same place Stuart was born.

I went to NEC last Saturday. I did not want to take the car. The train with a change in London would cost me almost £60 return. In the end I did part of the journey by train and then from London to Birmingham by Megabus. All in all £25 - not bad.
Always travel in to London or Birmingham nec on train. Parking can be tricky & expensive. Mainly drive to work (train driver)cos of the time it takes to get home late at night on public transport & the 'orrible weirdy people that can be about.
Nosaj thanks for the info about the track being made of Edam cheese, I'll remember that when I'm driving my stinky, inefficient 8 coaches of hell at 90mph on the mainline!

Won't be the same place as me because he can count.
Well I hope they do well in the run. What times are they hoping for? And perhaps if you link to their fundraising page you might find that the more generous of us might donate as it is a good cause.

Our Two together rail card runs out on Thursday. Should be renewing it but not sure if I will.
We got back the cost of buying the current one and had a lovely day out to Oxford last month. Was worth it because of not worrying about parking and the traffic.
Planning a journey can be difficult. We drove from Almondsbury to Stroud last month. Didn't take long in the car and parking was cheap. Hubby said what about going by train next time - nearly £40 with the card and over to Swindon then up. A really long journey when its only an hour in the car.
Did Chepstow in the summer. Wasn't too bad price-wise by train but with delays and missing the link train we took over two hours to get home. Only takes 20 minutes from home in the car!!!
