They are great! get the paperwhite as some have said,
also to note you can get the kindle app on your ipad and even your phone, and they sync to the same spot in the book.
I have found this handy when being out somewhere and having an unexpected wait for something and no kindle with me, I can simply open the app on my phone and read the book I was reading on the phone for a short while, same with the ipad etc.
I have also listened to hundreds of books using Audible (another amazon company) as I spend hours and hours in the car I find them brilliant, a lot of them will sync with the kindle, so you can listen in the car then pick up where you left off with the kindle!
Also find the Audio books excellent for longer journeys in the van
I have a nexus 7 2nd gen....but alas i prefr t a the feel of a real book and will continue to read my paperbacks or hardbacks... but for all else nexus does me
I bought the basic Kindle and downloaded a few books and read them. I would much prefer a real book though and haven't used the Kindle for over a year.
My OH who had never read a book in his life now uses the Kindle and enjoys reading a book now and again.
I have after years saying i wouldn,t,bought a kindle fire this week, they are on offer for 49 pounds on amazon, thats what made me give in.i have downloaded 100 free books and free papers, magasines are cheaper than in shops if you want them.
I,ve just finished my firstbook and found it easier to read at night time when you are in bed and getting tired as it is lit.i can take it anywhere ,its light and easy to chuck in a bag, also i can get on the internet too which saves time and having loads of mindboggling devices for a technophobe like me
my partner and i both own kindles and load them up with books to take on holiday...before we had them we were having to take 20+ books with us and even then we'd end up buying more from charity shops whilst away...we save so much space now that we only have to pack the two kindles...

I am another one who swore I would never use a kindle as I liked real books. I got one for christmas 2 years ago. I managed to break mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm lost without it. I have over 600 books stored on mine. As well as free books from Amazon I bought 2 or 3 discs of ebay with over 1000 books on each. you can download magazines. I also use it to access the internet. I have games on it that I downloaded for free and it even helps kep my 3 year old nephew entertained as I download his favourite cartoons as well as using the i player to catch up on TV

I love both my kindles...I have had a standard kindle for several years, which I use for reading books, particularly on holiday. I then got a Fire HDX and that's also great...I read on that in the house and in bed as it's brighter and also use it as a tablet.
Get one, you won't regret it...I loved the feel and smell of a real book, but I'm a bit of a hygiene freak and can't buy second hand books (someone might have been reading it on the loo, or whilst picking their nose etc), so ended up spending a fortune...much cheaper on the kindle.
I have always been an avid reader and it took a long, long time for me to be coaxed into a Kindle. I still have a fully functioning original kindle which had the free for life "whispersync" I think it was called with their experimental internet connection and an 8 week battery life. Since it still gives me free connectivity even when abroad I have made sure it goes with me as a backup. Really slow though and no colour! I do have a Kindle Fire HD which I use when commuting as it's lighter to handle than an iPad and for a tenner monthly subscription I get the daily paper transmitted to it every morning by 06:00 which would cost me £22.60 if I bought the same newspaper from the shop - pays for itself, really. I have disks of multiple books which will take years to through. Like PeeWee, I subscribe to Audible and generally seek out unabridged books of a fair length - my current one is 60 hours of listening (Steven King - Under the Dome)- stick on a pair of Bluetooth headphones so no wires getting in the way and can more or less do whatever I want and still enjoy the story. We go to South of France for a month every summer so no more trawling round all the charity bookshops buying £1 second hand books and filling a carton to take up boot space. And, obviously, if you're flying anywhere it is a real boon in space and weight saving - just make sure it has a charge in it when you reach security - they need to see it working or you have to surrender it.
