Or rather through it.

We we boarding the loft out this afternoon when my OH put his foot through ceiling by accident.

He has a nasty graze on his shin and we now have a 2foot ish size hole in our bedroom!!

I laughed at first as there was nothing I could do, but now I am so cross, as guess who will have to ring plasterers after work tomorrow, sort out house insurance then paint the damn ceiling when its all repaired.

We have an excess on the insurance but whether we claim or not, its still going to cost us.

When I read the header I thought you meant he had put his foot in it mouth wise. My husband tends to put his foot in it that way. He once asked a friend who we hadn't seen for a while when the baby was due. She wasnt pregnant but it was made worse when her husband said "told you you were getting fat"Ouch

When we bought our first house it had missing floor boards in an upstairs bedroom. A friend visited and we told him not to go in bedroom but he was nosey and his leg went straight through the ceiling into the room below and as the rest of us looked up his leg was just dangling there.

Unfortunately it was a lathe and plaster ceiling and we had a real job to extricate him as the lathes held him firm. We though of pushing him straight on through but he objected.

Caraline, get some costs before asking the insurance people. They sometimes use their own nominated firm, they can be much more expensive as they know you're just paying the excess. If it's less than the excess, there's no point claiming.
But think of this as a good excuse to redecorate your bedroom & give it a make-over. You'll get ceiling paint on the carpet, then the new carpet won't match the curtains or bedding....

Fiona, its not long since I did it and got a new carpet
His friend at work is going to do it apparently so we don't have to go through the insurance. We can claim twice before it impacts on our policy, even though we haven't claimed anything for years!

Ah well, there are worse things and it was an accident, it was an accident, it was an accident.....my new mantra haha

Easy fixed, get some thick cardboard bigger than the hole, glue it over the hole loft side let glue set skim hole with plaster or filler room side let dry and paint job done.

I put my foot through the ceiling by the hatch at the top of the stairwell, and the hole was covered with polythene whilst the insurance was sorted out.

The workman duly arrived, moaning about safety, as the downstairs ceilings are 9ft 6 and upstairs are 9 foot, so he was over the best part of 20 foot drop.

He yanked off the sheet, despite our telling him to go slowly. Down shot a thick,thick layer of traffic grime and soot. He looked like something from the black and white minstrel show and both the hall and landing had a fine layer of soot. He then tried to wipe it off with a wet cloth making it worse.

The insurance then paid for the complete decoration of hall, stairwell and upstairs landing and corridor, as it was consequential damage. A job I had been putting off for years because of the enormity of the task.

It only cost me £50 for my excess.

Putting my foot through the ceiling was one of the best things I have done!

You could always put in a spiral staircase and make a feature of it!

Could have been worse, at least he didn't hurt himself (but maybe you should check your life policy too in case it happens again )

Been there...Done that....And got T shirt....

Flatmate and myself were up in the loft trying to repair a rain leak...When I stepped off the joist went straight through the ceiling and landed on my bed below!!

Won't bore you with details...But it was in a building no better than a squat(Dodgy Landlord) We decided to move to pastures new a few weeks later!!!

Every time I see one of those video's on YBF it takes me right back to the early 80's and my own "Loft Dive"....
