Can you send me the link to the evidence that says running is bad for your joints? It's complete rubbish and the benefits to your heart and body far outweigh the chances of injury.
OP.. Are you on Facebook.. If so I would search for a group called BOSH run, it's a really friendly and helpful bunch of people.
I would aways say the best running shoes are those that suit you, so what's good for others isn't always the best for you. Try a local running shop, many will offer a guarantee if the shoes don't turn out to be what you expected
All you need to do is type " running related injuries" you should find loads of info. Which will answer your question.
Training to much without appropriate rest, intensity, too much to soon, rtraining with pain and not stopping, repetition, training on tarmac and uneven surface. Soft tissue damage, ankle and knee injuries, fractures, over 50% of runner will suffer injuries.
Then biomechanics and footwear.

It's not just those doing hard physical work that end up with joint and back problems. Anyone who has a bad posture, muscle imbalance, abnormal gait, lifts and handles items incorrectly or is just carrying too much weight etc. is likely to get joint, muscle and back problems.
When I first started running as an exercise my problems were caused by muscle imbalance. I have seen physiotherapists on several occasions and gone through exercise routines to build up supplementary muscles.
The most important of these, for me, was one to stop my knees toeing in. This took the form of sanding on one leg and bending the knee to do a flamingo type squat. This built up additional muscle around my knee and completely solved knee and hip pain.
Also very important to get a good pair of running shoes, suitable for your gait and replace them when they go flat, that's after about 500 miles. I'm currently doing over 30 miles a week and not suffering any injuries.
Billy, I get your point about walking, but it just doesn't get anywhere near the enjoyment that I get through running. Do they do competitive walking races?
Bobcat, Shin splints tend to be temporary and you should be able to get past them with care and good shoes.
For those thinking of starting running see if there is a Park Run near you. It's a 5km run every Saturday morning at 9am. They are free to attend and you can start off really slowly and build up your jogging/running time over as many weeks as it takes. They are organised for people to have fun.

Getting injured doesn't mean it's bad for your joints though.

I have had Saucony for the last few years, and i was fitted for my first pair. So I like Saucony as a brand...I also buy boys because I do NOT like girlie colours for sport.
Hopefully I have found an all round work out sport to pursue. I pick up my 'kick scooter' on Saturday and if I keep my side of the bargain and put as much effort into it as I do running and cycling I should soon see the benefits.
Once again DECATHLON have come up trumps (check out the Oxey Town 9), they have their own brand of scooters.
The French and Italians are really 'cool' about them, but for some reason it is seens as a bit geeky and in a category with recumbants..I aim to dispel that myth and make it a 'hip' mode of transport. I don't look geeky and will gear up for it Oliver - THe impact injury ratio is really low..but it depends on the person doing it really. For sure I will not be going on the road with it , so that 50% reduction in risk of injury.

Mike, I bought Trail shoes, and they are not a patch on my Suacony's, but they were a third of the price. There is no arch support, very little cushioning in the heel, so no 'spring' when you run. They make my ankles ache, so I am going to use them for walking and scooting to work instead, and put it down to experience. We have a superb running shop called 'The Complete Runner', so I will be patronising them rather than buying from Sports Direct in future. Clothing is one thing but the wrong shoes can cause damage.
I did my first commute on my kick scooter this morning....goodness it's hard work, so this can only be of longer term benefit. Its breeze on the flat and down hill, but inclines are felt immediately. I rode up Apperley Bridge...well I alternated scooting and walking. Amazing buzz, I feel alive!
