Ficklejade, if "The Computer says NO!" exists, the circumstances don't!

Wibsey, try and get her on a "Pass Plus" course. It'll save a good bit off the premium.

My daughter has just recently passed her driving test. She's has a 02 Corsa for the last 2 years on a Black Box, with the Coop Young Drivers Policy. She's 24, and when we first got her the car, the quotes were from over £1,000 to over £8,000 from one company.

The Coop initially quoted her for Fully Comp, 23:00 to 06:00 curfew, and a 5,000 mile restriction. With me as a Named driver, restricted to 50 miles per under a Black Box, at £640 on a Provisional Licence. She took the Policy, and within 3 months, received a £120 refund.

Speaking to Her Driving Instructor straight after her test, about Pass Plus, she was advised that whilst it's worth it for the extra experience, most Insurance Companies, will no longer give a discount. Due to the way Pass Plus was abused when initially created. With people paying the fee, and getting the Certificate, but not doing the 6 hours required Driving to actually gain the Certificate. The Coop confirmed that they would not give a discount for Pass Plus.

Living in Wales, my daughters stats as a Learner, had a higher percentage of the time at 60mph and 70mph than the lower speeds, she'd driven at night, and on the A55, so she'd already experience of the Pass Plus syllabus, apart from driving on designated Motorways (the A55 being one in all but name) so decided not to go ahead with the Pass Plus.

With 2 years No Claims already, mid next year, when the policy is up for renew. We'll see what the quote is with and without the Black Box.

Word of warning, if the car has a Black Box fitted, and is not driven for over 8-10 days, the Black Box will flatten the Car Battery. A lesson my daughter learned the hard way.

The Coop Young Drivers Policy, was the cheapest of all the quotes she got, for the Corsa, under a Black Box, in one case well over £1,000 cheaper. It's worth checking with a large number of Insurance Companies, doing Black Box schemes for young Drivers, as quotes will very to a high degree.

I have a 9 year old Kia Seddona 2.9, we initially got quotes to put her on my policy, with just 2,000 miles, it was cheaper to buy the Corsa, and insure it in her own name than to add her to mine. One company wanted £22,000 to add her on, for a car worth less than £2,000.

Go direct to companies, and speak to a Customer Services Rep, do not try Price Comparison Sites, nor Companies own Web Sites, as they will access the very cheapest Options, not offered to Comparison Sites, and not usually on their web sites either. Anther lesson we learnt.

Dave
