Try using Booking.com for accommodation - they do hotels as well as guesthouses and they often have links to trip advisor. Most don't charge until you get to the hotel which I always find handy plus some have free cancellation just in case anything stops you using the hotel/guesthouse etc;
Any train service will do - trainline offer no better discounts than booking through national rail.
