I have a kobo glo and have previously had a Sony ereader and a kindle.
Personally I can't read a lot on a backlit screen (like a phone or an iPad or tablet), it gives me a headache. But reading on an eInk screen (like kobo or kindle) is easy on the eyes.
I agree with whoever said to get one with a light - I've had with and without and with is fabulous for reading in low light, and in bed at night etc. They are 'front lit' so it's not at all like reading on your phone, there's no glare at all.
I prefer my Kobo because I don't like the idea of kindle having a monopoly, and I don't want to be tied into them. And with my kobo I can borrow library books as well.
If I'm buying books, I generally do it direct from the kobo which connects to Kobos own store. However if I know somewhere has a sale on, or much cheaper books, I'll order from there, but that means you have to connect to the computer, and although that's not really a big deal, it's enough to stop me doing it very often. Same with the library - if you want to borrow from the library you have to connect via a computer, you can't do it direct from the device.
I still read paper books, especially for non fiction, but for general reading for pleasure, I love my kobo. It's small, light and I can always take it with me, whereas I can't always fit a paper book in my bag.
