Currently watching Rip off Britain holidays.
They have tested mozzie repellents and say that Deet and PMD are the best.

Thanks. I just caught the tail end of the programme and was going to watch it on iPlayer.

I get bitten like mad by mozzies but, to be honest, have never found any commercial products that really work. I've tried Deet but have no idea what PMD is.

I read in a walking magazine years ago that a mixture of Dettol and Johnsons baby oil was very good. Apparently the smell wears off after a while

My old dad, now 89, said a good cigar would always keep the mozzie's away, well that was his excuse anyway! When he used to take the family camping down on the Cote d Azur back in the 1960's and 1970's.

When I saw the thread title I thought, 'I know the weather's been a bit mad lately, and my grass hasn't stopped growing - but SURELY not mozzie bites already??' Am relieved to read that it's just about recommendations!

Sorry VK..the guy on the show tried the Marmite test and got loads of bites. It might work for some, as I think most of the applications do.

Hi , a little mozzie tip that I learnt when I lived in Sweden many years ago , if you have a bite that is driving you mad with the itching , for this you need a lighted cigarette if you are a non smoker you will have to borrow one , hold the lighted fag as near to the bite as you can stand ( without burning yourself ) and hold it there for 20 to 30 seconds , then after that it wont bother you with the itching again , it really does work and for 20 to 30 seconds of discomfort will avoid hours of scratching

Aloe vera gel is very good for stopping the itching.

Deet for me. Nasty stuff but it does the job on the whole.
