Hello All,
We are having a concrete patio laid and we want two lamp posts bolted down on it. My question is what would you use to protect the cable under the concrete. I was thinking using plastic conduit just in case I need to replace the cable at anytime.
Do you think this is suitable or would the lime in the concrete attack the plastic?
Open to suggestions.
You're having the patio laid. Just tell the builder what you want. He'll problably lay the cable in the bottoming under the concrete and just bring it up where you want your lights.
It can be SWA, Concentric PVC or any suitable cable laid in protective ducting that affords the same level of protection as armoured cable (twin wall cable ducting)
Marker tape must be laid above it to identify it (yellow marked "buried electric cable below"or words to that effect).
It must be RCD protected.

I recently laid 2 exterior cables, one to my shed/workshop and the other to my greenhouse.
Both were laid using armoured core cable but where they ran under concrete paths, I placed them inside 2 inch plastic pipe. Not so much for protection but more in case at any time in the future, I wanted to replace or add to the cabling and I wouldn't have to dig up the paths again.
Although I wired both the Greenhouse and the Shed I got a registered electrician to instate the cabling at each of the ends and check out my wiring.
Don't cut corners where exterior wiring is concerned and Armour Cored Cable is fairly inexpensive.
