There was just as much awful dross about 30-40 years ago.  Just seems to be less talent about at the moment.

It would depend how many current artists are still out there playing & performing in 30-40yrs time. The artists we remember from the 70s-80s are mostly those that still perform & still make music.

I agree that there was a lot of dross 30-40yrs ago but there was also a lot of good music and its still getting air time. There was definately a musical turning point for the better back then, which was not a flash in the pan and a lot of us remember the musical buzz back then..

I dare say young folks get the same buzz today from their singers/bands but only the test of time will tell if it can compare with the longevity with 60's and 70's music..I doubt it?
