Some charities sell your details on to other charities which apparently we agree to when we donate in certain ways.
After signing up for one charity we found ourselves bombarded with charity junk. Took a while to find out but that was why.

When we first moved into our house we got loads, and I really mean loads, of junk mail every day for the previous owners. I ended up just writing 'no longer at this address, return to sender' and sending it back. Just put in the post box, no need for a stamp. It all stopped quite quickly. I've done the same for junk mail to me. Worked then to.
One thing to do is to double and triple check when ordering anything that the 'allow to contact me' option is not ticked. Watch out though, as sometime you have to tick it to say you don't want to be contacted!

I find the best thing you do is just give my donation anonymously then they don't have your details.

Been fascinating reading your responses. Now put both self, son and late Mum on MPS - getting mail for her has been really upsetting - particularly when she never used the internet her contact details were only from bank, building societies and electoral role; social services, etc. - limited version. She didn't own the house; didn't have a car.
My donations to preferred charities have always been as a volunteer i.e. giving my time not cash. As the time donations have required me to have insurance cover, then yes, they have my details, yet two of them never ask me for money - a third does but is ignored. (The third one had a new local boss over and got chapter and verse about their requests for money from their volunteers.). And I do carefully read the T&Cs and the mailing boxes.
I'm afraid I take a malicious delight in saving up junk mail from financial institutions such as Capital One and MNBA and sending stuff back
