Hi did anyone else see the programmes on BBC 3 What to buy and why
It was about a month ago on the great Egyptian Cotton very iffy thread count?
Certain stores are selling Egyptian Cotton as say for EG 1000 thread count when it is in fact when tested it was as low as 400
The reason they are getting away with it is because they are counting the strands / threads to make a yarn
So 4 strands wrapped round each other to make one Yarn (thread) hence the 1000 thread count and when tested it shown no difference in quality from an item that had a 400 thread count
I was going to buy some Egyptian Cotton items from dunelm but after watching the programme I will be going to Asda instead for the same items at half the price and the same quality.
Bought some 200 count sheets at Dunelm. Very nice at a not too bad price. Got a deep mattress and Dunelm were the only place I could get the right colour in the size I needed.
My hubby buys our towels and flannels on line from Richard Howorth you get what you pay for I have never used a flannel so soft in my life and there made from Eygptian cotton
Re the OP.....I saw that prog and many suppliers were quite evasive with their reply stating "We comply with the law on thread count" even though they were using the twisted thread method.
As stated get the shop to open the bags or wrapping and have a god fettle with it before you buy
------------- Snowmen fall to earth in kit form........
Every day is a gift..That's why it's called the present.
We had an Asda 180 TC cotton sheet & pillow cases, I put them to the charity shop as they were very scratchy and not pleasant to sleep on. Can't remember if they were Egyptian Cotton or not, I suspect not - TC is not the only pointer to quality, but my Sainsbury 400 TC sheets & pillow cases, bought in a sale, are silky smooth. We don't have Dunelm in these parts.
