Our 'main' cooker hob at home is all halogen, and we sooo miss wok style cooking, as halogens are more for boiling and shallow frying pans really...

We have a Cadac, kept from our camping days, so do you think it'll be powerful enough to give the severe heat a wok needs for cooking???

I have a Cadac Safari Chef HP version, and the lid is good enough as a wok, and I am Chinese who cook a little

Should have said, ours is he safari chef too, but would like to know if the cadac will handle a full size wok...???

don't think it is the heat that is the issue xs heat denatures oil and can make it harmful to humans - especially olive oil rape seed oil is better for higher temps but not 'severe' heat

I too have been trying to get hold of a decent burner for wok cooking.

First you do need high heat. Use groundnut oil which is for high temp cooking.

I've been watching the good food channel, Chinese food made easy, and on episode 2, Ching-He Huang uses this:

As we're all electric in the kitchen, but still have the 22mm feed for the boiler (that's in the same room), could we 'T' off the gas main with some kind of quick release coupling so we could then use the burner off a flexi hose off that as and when??

PLEASE DO NOT CONNECT TO THE HOUSE GAS UNDER ANY CIRCUMTANCES.

the wok burner I suggest must be used with a low pressure gas and a suitable regulator.

You must not use the burner nor connect to natural household gas with a hose. It is very dangerous and could lead to an explosion.

What's the problem with using a portable gas cylinder?

You should also be careful not to use indoors as they are really meant for outdoor use.

At least you cleared that up for us RJ as we didn't know if we could / couldn't do it...

Maybe just the cylinder way is easier. It's not as if we're woking EVERY night....
