Amazing what they get up to. Some years ago I was buying Fairtrade breakfast bars from a supermarket until I realised that some of the bars seemed to be slightly smaller. I weighed all the bars in the 6 bar pack and half of them were under weight. I complained to the supermarket and I haven't seen that brand of breakfast bar on sale in any supermarket since...although they could have changed the name of course.
Try weighing bars of chocolate, contents of tinned foods etc; you will be surprised.
Reason, well if he had any noodles he'd have worked out that if they fill the regular up to the brim then he'd spill it all over his hands, trousers and van and then he'd be complaining about that. Also he'd only get one shot of coffee instead of two. And for what it's worth the regular cup is about 340ml and the large about 450ml so the cup actually holds about a third more.
However, makes a good story.

I stopped going to Costa and Starbucks about a year ago, I invested in a decent Flask Thermos Ultimate 800ml, which I fill with boiling water each morning.
I am now saving a fortune, using Aldi Whole Bean Instant coffee and other similiar brands.
OK it's not quite that coffee shop taste, but it does the job whilst I am out at work, and at around 5p per cup, what's not to like.
So I often have two brews a day whilst at work, which at Costa prices would be £5, my spend now is more like just 10p per day.
My only other costs is Demerara sugar, and I keep a pint of milk chilled in my camping fridge which is in the boot of the car.
I saw the response Costa give to the original post. There is an extra 2oz of liquid (I think it was 2 may have been 4), and extra shot of coffee also they cannot fill a cup so full for safety reasons. So it is a bigger coffee in a bigger cup and it costs more. Costa were hiding nothing.
But anyone who buys coffee like this every day and often more than once is mad. I don't understand all this culture of walking around with a cup of coffee everywhere!

I get free bean coffee at work so don't usually frequent Costa and Starbucks.
Anyway, the regular shop cups aren't filled to the brim as Oliver has pointed out. A large might fit in a regular cup but a regular portion is smaller.
This is another example of FB smoke and mirrors for the sheeple.

It's hardly news that Costa coffee is poor value. The owners worked out long ago there was far more profit in selling a £3 cup of coffee than a £3 glass of beer.
I can see no rocket science in that video, it's self evident that if you froth up milk then pour it from container to container, as the air escapes the volume will decrease.

Probably the same culture that walks around everywhere with a mobile phone stuck in it's ear. I think it's called evolution or something. One thing that won't change though is thumbs...you can't hold a cup of coffee or tap away on a mobile phone without thumbs!

I will not use any of the Costas...Starbucks...Subways...etc. etc., as id rather give my money to the little guys - who value your custom. Its time everyone else did the same.
We like to use cafe's wherever we go but for a quick coffee on the move in some places by the time you've found a cafe, found somewhere to park you could be an hour further to your destination. Same on a commute or lunch-break - time is tight. I guess on holiday or if retired you can spare another hour.
