Kayaks? Off to the Dordogne, camping right by the river and planning to make full use of it! Kayak hire seems very pricey so considering buying one (used perhaps) see how we get on and perhaps use it for some sea Kayaking too - can always sell it again!. Will need life jackets and there are two adults and two dogs (they have buoyancy vests) which we plan to take onboard too. Any suggestions in regard to make/model? Anyone selling one? and a couple of vests for a size 10 female and 40" chest 80kg me!

Novices at this but we've gone for a Sevylor Rio & Colorado. We still need to buy the Colorado. There's 3 of us. I'm heaviest so on my own in the Rio. Lad & Mrs in the Colorado. Just me & the lad - him in the Rio, me in the Colorado.
Colorado on offer at Go Outdoors. There's also a great shop in Keswick in the precinct opposite Oxfam that does good deals. I got the Rio there. They also do paddles & bouyancy aids.
Neoprene clothing etc from Decathlon is good value.
Hoping to get out shortly for some tuition with my expert mate.

Many thanks for the pointers! Seen a couple of Sevylor on Gumtree localish to me as well as eBay. I have read some good reviews about the Sea Eagle ones too. The Keswick shop, Plane Fear, appears to have ceased trading now but thank you - will update when I have some news!

Nah - not Planet Fear - it's around the corner in the precinct. Lakeland Toys & Hobbies, Museum Square. Sells games, toys, canoes & gear downstairs, army surplus, hunting gear upstairs. Can't miss it - have Sevylors propped against the wall outside.

I had a Sevylor Tahiti Plus (3 seater) inflatable kayak a few years ago that I tried using in the sea but it was rubbish, I really couldn't get on with it, it might of been better on a lake or river or it might just be that I am used to sit in & on kayaks.
One of my friends has a single seater inflatable kayak that he gets on really well with so I am sure they are not all bad, I am no sure what make his one is tho !
we used a Sevylor Reef 300 on the DD last year and it was great. They don't make it anymore but its a neat design. Norfolk Marine still had some last time i looked.

Cheers, have been learning loads about brands, construction types etc. and seems Sevylor are a favourite, middle of the range with a wide choice. A couple of Sea Eagles on eBay and one on Gumtree very close to me too. My favourite has to be the ADVANCED ELEMENTS Unisex Adult Advanced Frame Convertible Kayak - Red pritty impressive videos on YouTube but pricey when you consider that you have to buy things like paddles and seats separately!!
