We have MS Office at work and some of our staff do work at home using Libre. Files all appear to work fully in word. If you are OK working online you can use MS Office for free by signing up to a "live" (formerly hotmail) account.
------------- It'll work out in the end!!!!
I didn't do it !! Nobody saw me do it !! You can't prove anything !!
Thank you Mike. I now have Word 2000 installed from an old disc I found in my collection of computer junk that may come in handy one day, and it is working fine. I have also been using hotmail directly online since Microsoft announced Windows Live Mail would no longer work after the end of July. Working online is little different really.
My problem stemmed from the fact that having bought a new laptop loaded with Windows 10, the Microsoft Office program is only a trial version and having spent over £200 on a new laptop I certainly don't intend forking out another £75 or so for Microsoft Office.
Update to the above...I now don't think Windows 10 is the trial version. Being a new laptop I believe it is the full program. However, I don't like it at all. Difficult to navigate and understand what each program does. Most of the stuff I am unlikely to use and stuff I always use seems to be missing so I am deleting lots and downloading lots and gradually getting it to work the way I want it to, but it's a struggle.
It probably is the full program, Bob. I still keep being prompted to update to Win 10 from my Win 7, but I have no intention of doing so. I have seen Win 10 and I don't like it. When Microsoft stops supporting Win 7 or it becomes difficult to use, I will look at converting to one of the free O/S such as Linux.
I'm now using a borrowed laptop, as ours is just about finished now. Gave it to a tech mate, and his opinion is 'you're better off getting a new one now...'
So, if you peeps could click currys web site, and then put in a max budget of £350 on the laptop page, out of them, which would you recommend...????
Top end of your budget but my vote would be for the Asus X555LA I have one, and it is an excellent laptop. I've always used stacks before now, and this was my first venture into laptops, but it hasn't been a painful transition at all.
