Just returned from Ullapool, our first tent trip for years. We loved it.
Our brand new vango iris 600 was perfect. Didn't get the chance to dry run the pitch, no problem, pitched in 25 mins.
Only problem was that the site was rammed with motor homes and caravans and the only pitch left with hook up sloped. The new vango carpet was a death trap. Whoever designed the non slip backing needs their bumps felt.
Luckily we'd kept lots of our old camping gear and just needed a few bits.
If your thinking of heading " up north " to the highlands, bring a trailer full of midgie spray. I've literally 100's of bites.

Thanks for the replies.
I forgot how friendly this site was.
I know all about smidge, living in the highlands its on the shopping list along with the bread, eggs and milk.
I simply forgot it. I wont be making that mistake again.

We were at Ullapool (doing the North Coast 500) a month ago. I agree, lots of huge motorhomes, I don't know how they fare on the single track roads further north. The sea breeze kept the midges away until dusk (at midnight), and yes they were brutal - worth it for the fabulous sunset though. But it's ticks I loathe, I hate that deep un-plugging feeling when you use the tick hook, and so does the dog.
armchaircamper. Its been a long time.
We fell back in love with Mallorca and enjoy our two weeks each year. But we missed camping so much. The TT was great and we somewhat enjoyed the caravan. It just wasn't the same. We actually only managed 2 weekend trips in two years in the caravan.
Already got this months camp organised. Back to Alnadhu for Mrs Dave's birthday at the end of the month.

Travelled from county Limerick to Devon to go camping for the first time in years. Have to say, fell in love with camping all over again and even more deeply in love with Devon, it's heart achingly pretty and sitting outside the tent watching the sunset over the rolling countryside and later, counting the shooting stars while sitting back having a glass of wine with my wife left me more relaxed than I can recall ever being. Having reaffirmed a love of camping and touring, we have decided to order a Trigano Alpha TT, looking forward to touring the gorgeous British and Irish countryside next year and hopefully some continental touring in years to come.
