Their % 'cut' is much bigger nowadays, so you come out with way less that you used to.
I used to work for personal injury solicitors who didn't take a cut. If you win, their fees are paid by the other side. They won't take a case on if there is only a small chance of winning. We used to get a lot of work from National Accident Helpline. Might be worth a call to them. They take basic details which they pass on to a solicitor who then takes more detailed details and they have a meeting once a week to assess the chances of the claim. If it's taken on, it's done under an insurance policy, which doesn't cost you anythying.
You may have legal cover on an insurance policy already, though - buildings and contents or motor. Worth asking.
Hope your granddaughter's condition improves with time. Poor girl.
