My son in law has been fined for speeding in germany he has paid the 188 euros on the spot and now a letter has been received which we think my require him to send his licence to Germany. Has anyone any knowledge about speeding fines in Germany. We have put the letter into google translate but it does not make sense.

We think that they want him his licence to germany.

Is there anyone that can help us find a decent site to translate the letter.

We are not arguing about the fine he knows he has done wrong. He just wants to do the right thing. Can anyone help

They do seem to have a points system of their own. I have no idea how it would work but perhaps they want to add their points to his licence. Open this page in Chrome and use translate as it might be meaningful. https://www.bussgeldkatalog.org/punkte-flensburg/

If you have a local senior school near you they may have a German teacher who might be able to explain.

Hi sennen, I'm german and was wondering if you want or could scan the letter in your computer and send it to me via email and I would have a look for you.
I would have thought that if the policeman fined him on the spot that they would hav had a look at his licence?
Anyway, let me know and I send you my email adress.
Kind regards

I suspect he has received the standard German nationals letter than requires them to send in their licence for noting, however this does not apply to any licence issued anywhere else.

Thanks my daughter is going to try and scan the letter Wednesday and send to me. That would be a great help.

I'm glad someone will hopefully be able to help you.

As an aside, I have a cautionary tale with some of the hassles with dealing with the Police in Germany. A friend had a letter, in German, from the Police there regarding a vehicle that had been involved in an accident but drove away. It was the same make and model as his, the same colour and the part of the reg. no. included a number and three letters - witness couldn't remember all details or the order - and was a right hand drive with GB on the plate. The German Police contacted DVLA who turned up friend's car as a near match. Unfortunately, friend had been in Koln near where the incident took place so became prime suspect. It took nearly a year to clear him, with his car being examined for damage (at his expense) and a lot of translation and legal fees. So well worth getting any letter from the German Police translated and replied to asap.
Hope you get it all sorted out!

I got fined for speeding in Germany last year. I wouldn't have paid, but I had broken down and was in a German registered loan car. I ended up getting two fines - one from the local town (Stadt) and one from a regional authority. I was not asked to send my licence in though. Had to pay as the garage who owned the loan car also had my credit card details - bugger!

The speeding fine was paid on the spot the other 7 euros was an sdmin charge this is now paid. No point in sending your licence as the German police cannot put a ban or points on it they go on a ghost licence that the German police create, but the way that's what the DVLA do for foreign drivers. He has got 2 points and a months driving ban on his ghost licence so cannot go back into German till after January 2017 as the ban can be apply any time over the next 4 months.

Thanks to the person on here that translated the letters which was a great help and in the end my daughters work helped her thought their legal team so its all sorted now.
