Scott.......I've been with Autonational Breakdown for several years. It costs me £99 a year for full cover for both the car and my motorbike. Never had to use it yet and hopefully never will but it's peace of mind.
Theres no best breakdown cover. All will attract praise & derision in equal amounts. You may get help 20mins after phoning or it may take hours. It depends how things are at the time & place of breakdown. Even the AA can be rubbish if the low paid call centre operative you speak to at 11pm does not understand their own job, which is not unknown.
More important is careful reading of the t&c's of any cover you are considering. On each website click the link to the policy booklet & read very carefully. Most will recover car & caravan/trailer together but most have 7mtre length limit on caravan. Some will attend breakdown on caravan, ie puncture but you need to phone & speak to them to ascertain.
If you want continental cover be aware that if you break down on French autoroute you might well have to pay up front for recovery & claim cost off your provider later. Some providers will directly pay autoroute recovery service.
I use green flag, used them once, with the van on. They do have restrictions on the van size for recovery reasons I guess.
Like most they only cover a breakdown with the car not the van. You just have to look around a get what suits you and your pocket.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
I haven't had breakdown cover for a decade now. I figure what I've saved now will cover any future claims or incidents.
Mind due as we still have our bullet proof old school petrol zafira I feel confident without it.
When we buy a newer car in a couple of years time I will payout for cover.
Newer cars have a habit of randomly breaking down the more complicated they get.
I have full RAC cover, but get it free coz of OH worked for them. They also do a caravan cover scheme with C&CC. However, unlike the AA, if you break down on a Scottish island and need recovery to the mainland, you have to pay for the recovery lorry's return fare and that is not cheap!

Absolutely agree with you ten * 100£ is rather a lot, I've broken down a few times but it's been, battery related, fuel related and once had a turbo go, car went into limp mode and I drove it to the garage for a 800£ repair bill!
Battery and fuel was fixed after a short walk and a bump start. I'm still quids in after 12 years on the road.
For me I need it as if I get a puncture I have to call for a ride....I can't carry a spare on the motorbike. I do have free cover on the car which won't cover the bike or the caravan in tow.
The reason I upped mine to mayday is following a crash where a numpty drove in to the side of the caravan. Nothing do do with my car being roadworthy etc.
It was not my fault in any way, but I had to arrange my own recovery for the caravan as it was not roadworthy.
arranging this took me 4 days, although the cost was covered by his insurance! If I had had the breakdown cover then I would have been home by the end of day 1.
In fact there wasn't a mark on the car, and had he hit the car, then I would have been shipped home on a loader with caravan in tow.
