Hi
I am selling my M777 number plate on EBay and have been contacted by someone who sells number plates.
He told me he will sell my number plate and guarantee me over £300.
Could any one tell me if these people are genuine?

I sold a plate a good few years ago through a broker (Regtransfers I think). It was all very easy.

Be wary. It may well be legitimate but in all likelihood may well be a scam. Ask for company profile, do research etc first.
My old man always said if it looks too good to be true then usually it is.

I take it you already have the plate on retention just ready to transfer to new owner.
Which you will have to do with any buyer.

If so edit your Ebay listing changing the price to £300? buy it now ( as long as no bids already placed). Then tell the dealer to pay on Ebay/Paypal, that way you are both covered financially.
Mind you if it is genuine you would think he would bid on Ebay and possibly get it for less than he says he can get you??

These people are waving a cheap looking gold plated carrot in front of your face hoping you'll bite (typically early on into the eBay sale too)!

Boss has a private plate on his personal car...

Gets people ringing him regularly asking if he'll sell it for exactly the same price as they've offered you, £300!!!

DON'T BITE - PLEASE!!!!!!!

Yes, he'll sell your plate on for (well over) £300, and then that's all you'll get - just over £300, maybe £301!

Sounds like they're some kind of 'middle man / selling on agency'...

Genuine or not, tell them where to go and leave the sale to roll on...

The company is MOtoreg. looks genuine enough on their website.
The fella who contacted me told me to also leave it on Ebay and just to drop him a line if i sold it.

Is it just M777 on it's own, or does it have more letters after it?

Just having a muck about on the net with your M777 reg, and let's just say, 'let it roll'....

There are many other reg plate buyer / seller sites out there, so maybe get a 'valuation' on one too.

It may give you an 'idea' on what it's REALLY worth with you selling privately on eBay, and not to some 'middle man'...

As it sounds like he'll be giving you 'X', knowing the real value, and so sell it on for a big fat 'Y'.....
