If it's just for that any 12v or more will have enough power in the low gear to do the job,
I use a 14.4v bosch and it's fine.

I got a 14v one from Range, its a German make whose name I forget!
It has a 2 year warranty and works well with good battery life. I keep it in the van as it came in a tough carry case.
Reasonably priced too.
Aldi quite often have them, they are good quality and have a 3 year warranty.

My Bosch 14v has served me well for about ten years, for home jobs and now the caravan steadies. Now on its second battery, which are easily obtained - not so for the cheapies from the DIY shops that I used to buy regularly.

Homebase have a great deal on a 18v Stanley fatmax plus 2 batts just now, was about to buy it when I saw on Ebay the Fatmax with hammer action for £10 more, so Santa will deliver that.

That said the van one was bought at a car boot sale, holds enough charge for steadies up steadies down. Job done.

Honestly iccy, if you have good mobility and can wind them down, continue doing it manually until you can't. Remember the old saying "Use it, or lose it". I will continue doing it until I am physically unable.

Great for people with reduced mobility though, essential in fact. My wife could never do it because of her hips, I can, so I will continue.

Batteries, batteries, batteries.....

Has no one mentioned that you need drivers with Li-ion batteries NOT Ni-Cad ones...??

Learnt that the hard way years ago....

Also, the Ah (amp hours - how long the battery will last before needing a charge).

The higher the better BUT for caravan steadies, maybe a 2.0 Ah will be fine I think, anymore, and you'll be into the pro tool territory.....

I had a challenge ni-cad which I used for years. Also worked well for steadies without problems.

I now love my Dewalt Li-ion which is fantastic. Can't be bothered using it for steadies though - just use leg winder.

I agree, it's good exercise, but for me it's about speed.
We like to tour, so have a few one night stops, and over three weeks it must save loads of time.

I have an 18v ryobi and its fine, used it for work and the van. As long as you buy one with two batteries and a fairly quick charge, I suppose any of the cheaper ones are ok. And I always take the charger with me just in case. Pardon the pun
