If you stick to the basics Ryanair are no problem. It is when you expect all the perks of other airlines that they start to charge. Even then they don't hide the fact, so you are free not to book with them! With regard to refunds following a family members death, we had no problems, just sent a photo of the death certificate, relationship to the deceased and within two hours the flight cost was refunded and a very nice email confirming it,offering their condolences and hoped we would book with them again. I was very surprised because we were expecting a bit of a game with them. The family member who died wasn't even flying with them,we just cancelled our holiday because of their death.
