Hi, I'm looking at our next big holiday for 2018. In the very early stages of research and planning. I'm thinking of New Orleans and/or Nashville. Anyone been to these places? Any comments?
We were in New Orleans last year (March) it is a fantastic city! We started with 5 days in Washington DC, drove down the east coast - Virginia, N &S Carolina, Georgia, then across to NO, where we stayed in a small hotel, about 10/15 min tram ride from the centre. It worked well for us! Dont hire a car for your time in NO, parking at the hotels is $30-50 per day. If you have any specific questions, dont hesitate to ask.
Haven't been to NO for about 20 years but had a great time when I did go. Taking a stroll down Bourbon Street at night is a sight and sounds overload. DO take in a jazz club, be careful with some other clubs (!)
Wouldn't want to do more than a couple of days there though. Great as part of a longer tour.
Like anywhere in US stick to main areas at night and take usual precautions. there is a lot of poverty and still a lot of possible racial tension in many poorer cities especially in deep south, but people like most places are generally very welcoming and hospitable, and a great accent!
Ive had a thing about New Orleans ever since I watched The Big Easy many years ago. Ditto Nashville, I love listening to the radio during CMA.
We won't be driving. I've been tweaking flight times and prices from Glasgow and both are hefty so I don't think I'll be going to the bother and the expense of doing both cities in the one go. No direct flights and waiting times in London are long - I think I'd be done in flying between New Orleans/Nashville and Glasgow and we don't have the luxury of a lengthy holiday to slow the pace down.
New Orleans it will be I think, perhaps a week. It looks amazing. music and food are two of my big loves.
A lady I know has just been to Nashville with her partner. They are both late 60's...Both were refused alcohol in a club as they had no ID with them to prove they were over the age limit! Bloomin mental BUT worth knowing in advance if you fancy a drink. ...

Every day is a gift..That's why it's called the present.
Was discussing this with one of my adult daughters. Her dream holiday she said, always wanted to go. So on went the Big Easy, again, just to get a feel for that great music. She visited again last night and said its a definate, she and 2 friends are booking as soon as the flights come out for the Jazz Festival next year. Well it was my idea first, so the 5 of us are going for a week so we can fit in tours and trips etc. I do love a plan. 😀😀😀😀
Drive the Nanchez Trace Parkway from Nashville to NO . Make sure to have a stop over in Tupelo MS . Great car museum there & Elvis birthplace . My wife is American from Arkansas & Tupelo is on our list to move too when / if we decide to move over. A planned one night stay over turned into 4 days !! Great place.
