I'm looking for what I think we used to call 'a portable music centre'.
Many years ago, I had one of these, made by Crown, which had AM/FM/LW/SW radio as well as 2 cassette tape decks and a clock. It had an alarm setting so you could set it to wake you with your favourite radio station or music cassette. The sound quality was excellent.
I'm looking for the modern version of this, with a CD player instead of the cassettes. I have bought several and listened to many more. They just don't seem to have the sound quality and that's where I would like some advise. Do you have one of these, with really good sound quality?
If so, could you let me know the make and model and I will go a shop to listen to it and hopefully find a good 'un.
Something by Bose? Not sure what you want this for, just at home in different rooms, or to take when travelling. I would try looking at external speakers or a sound bar for better sound.
Bose soundwave. I picked up an older model second hand as they are expensive new. No larger than an A4 piece of paper, the sound will fill a large room.
Minicamper2001, I'm probably going to take it round the house with me and out to the shed when I'm working out there.
Thanks Dave & Sean, I'll have a look at those brands. :)
Whilst the Sonos system is very good and Bose provides good sound I have a feeling maybe that the OP is after something more like this JVC - JVC Currys.
I base this on the portability he wants and is comment about the 'excellence' of the old Crown system.

Roberts do nice little all in one systems. I don't have one but the portable radio we have from them sounds excellent for its size.
I have a Roberts Blutune 100 all in one system with DAB/FM radio and CD, it is excellent.
It also has a mobile phone charging point.
My only criticism of it is the rather small remote control.
The lad has got a new crappy 'dansette' type record player. While it looks the retro part, the sound appears as though its coming through two paper cups and a length of bailer twine. He thinks its great. Thats progress folks!
we have a Brennan JB7, with over 4000 cd's loaded on it, but no radio, the size of a hardback book, with an output for small speakers or plug into the van radio, works for us and no big box of cd's to carry with you
Hope this helps,

I love Roberts radios etc. I have a tiny radio in the kitchen, and the sound quality is superb.
My friend bought a Roberts Zoombox (CD + radio) for her dad, and she says it sounds fantastic.
