For the last week or so I have been getting repeat calls to my mobile. I've been ignoring them as from unknown land line numbers.
Today I accidentally rang the number that called me back. A company called Utilita. There was some message about how to opt out of them trying to call me again.
The question is,how do I actually stop them calling me?
The calls are coming from a different land line number each time, using some trickery obviously. It's therefore not a case of just blocking a single number. I'm aware that they probably now know that I called them back. Do I follow their procedure to stop them calling me (I didn't actually listen to the instructions) or I just ignore them and hope that they give up.
You could probably block individual numbers but if they use different numbers (not necessarily trickery for a large company with lots of numbers or even if using an out-sourcer) then blocking is unlikely to work. As they are (at least on the face of it) a UK based utility company, then registering your mobile with TPS should eventually stop them.
Personally I simply ignore unknown numbers and they usually give up after a while. Anything else is potentially just confirming that they have a valid number.
A few of my colleagues at work have an app on their phones called 'Mr Number' - they swear by it. I have no idea how it works, but it seems to automatically block loads of call centre calls (you can specify that a number is wanted if there's a danger of missing 'real' calls, eg - your actual utility supplier). Might be worth looking into?
Unfortunately the calls are from land lines numbers at different locations all over the country. At least one a day.
I don't give out my mobile number to anyone (except friends etc) apart from one utility company a few years ago. I own a house that I rent out and had to take over the bills for a few months.
I get the odd call that when I google show up as ppi etc but these numbers are not linked to any recent google report!
I decided that I may as well call one of the other numbers as well as I'd already called one (by mistake). Yep it's all the same company but every call shows up as a different land line.
I'm using an iPhone at the moment which recognises where the land line code is and so tells you a certain area is calling you.
So calling these various numbers gets to a recorded message saying that if you don't want them to call again to press 1 and leave your number.
What are they going to do then? Sell your number on as a 'live' number probably! It's beginning to annoy me now.
I was getting a load of unwanted calls on my O2 mobile; some from private individuals who'd been given my number as a contact and some from landlines. I contacted the firm who kept calling the most from the landline and they were very helpful; I was passed to someone who had some knowledge of the problem. It was sorted out at their end very rapidly and what was great was all the other unwanted calls stopped as well.
I still get the odd one or two unwanted calls and just don't answer them - but I do look up the number and if the company can be traced, I simply report them.

A lot of the these timewasting companies can apparently get the use of codes. I get one regularly calling me on my mobile number and comes up with my local code but they are based over 400 miles away. I got the info about them online.

It is a fool who has to say something.
As said, you can download an AP from the google store which i must say there are a few. These aps when set up will only let people on your contact list phone you.
One thing I don't block calls as I have noticed Doctors,Hospitals and some council offices use withheld numbers. If you block withheld numbers then they will not be able ring you.
