You say she is in an assessment bed at the moment. Has she been assessed for CHC, if she has health needs and a primary health need is the reason she has to go into care, she may be eligible for Continued Healthcare funding on the NHS, there is lots of information on the Care To Be Different website:

Things like risk of falls, continence, mental health issues, behavioural issues, medication etc are all included in the domains that are assessed for this, read up on it, it really is worth it.
Even if she does not currently qualify (and believe me, they will try to make sure that you think you won't!) you can ask for her to be assessed again if her health needs increase.
Hope this helps, and sorry for your troubles, it can be very stressful, as we know right now with our mother currently in a psychiatric assessment unit, the last six months have for us been a rollercoaster with it all too.
